I WOULD to know just exactly where they get their polls that show Clinton has such a big majority of the people in the United States for him. And if he is not convicted of perjury, they should have to release everybody who has been convicted of perjury and is in jail or has been in jail or in prison, and they should have to clear their record of any abuse, and they should have to pay them at least $100 a day for every day that they have spent in jail or prison.
IF THERE were such a thing as neighbor of the year, I would certainly like to nominate my neighbors for that award. During the recent icy weather, several of our neighbors called to see if we were alright or needed anything, which we appreciated very much. My husband is having health problems and is physically handicapped. Our driveway is very steep, and every morning our paper was on our doorstep and our mail was hand-delivered to our door, the garbage can brought up the hill and even the driveway cleared of ice. These angels of mercy are Gary and Karen Gay, and I would like to publicly thank them from the bottom of my heart.
I DON'T see anything wrong with naming a street after Mark McGwire. I would be proud to drive down Pete Rose Boulevard, and you can bet on that.
THE PRESIDENT committed perjury by lying to a federal court in the Paula Jones sexual harassment suit. Then after he lied to the court and it became obvious to everyone that he had lied, finally his lawyer, Bob Bennett, had to sign an affidavit with the court saying that the president had lied to him. Otherwise Bob Bennett would be committed perjury to the court by approving of the lies. Now that he's done that, the new lawyers for the president are saying that the president did not lie, but in saying that they must be lying. It's time to have a Senate trial with witnesses, lay out the facts with everybody to see, and figure out just how many people are lying for the president.
IF THE principal of a local school, any local school, was having an affair with a student teacher and the people found out about it, that principal would be fired before he time to say that he was doing the work the people paid him to do.
THIS IS to "Let's hear for the cats": Mister, I don't know who you are, but right on for the cats and all that they stand for. They're good babies. They're a lot better than a lot of humans. As far as the Audubon Society Gestapo, they don't need to come around this neighborhood. I've got cats too, and I like my cats.
I'VE BEEN getting so tired of hearing the polls say to leave President Clinton alone, the polls say this, the polls say that. So I thought it would be interesting to do a poll of Cape Girardeau and surrounding area. I took the 1998-99 Southwestern Bell telephone book and picked one person from every page at random for a total of 213 people. Out of those 213 people, not one single person had ever been polled by any of the three major polling organizations. I gave them the choice of three options: Are you in favor of impeachment, do you favor dismissal of all charges or are you in favor of censure? This is how the results came out. There were 126 in favor of impeachment or 59.2 percent, 49 were for dismissal or 23 percent and 38 were in favor of censure or 17.8 percent. So I don't know where they get these poll results, but they definitely haven't got them from Southeast Missouri.
I WANT to mention the Thrace exhibit that's going to be in Memphis this summer. That's a really good article, and it's a really good exhibit. It was at the St. Louis Art Museum last summer, and a lot of people saw it, but it's worth seeing again. If you didn't see it, go see it. It's great.
I'M QUITE disappointed. I just talked to the cable company. I thought there was possibly a mistake on the channel guide about C-SPAN 2 and the impeachment hearings of the president in the U.S. Senate. The cable company informs me it doesn't carry C-SPAN 2, which we know is free. I'm disappointed in the local cable company for not providing something so historic to our residents.
IF ANY of you have been watching this Bill Clinton trial, you'll see now that Clinton certainly wasn't paying attention to the business of the people of this country. He was taking care of his own private business from 1995 until he got caught in 1998.
