It just doesn't fit

Gore is at it again. He's declaring the largest crime decline ever recorded in this country. Well, if that is so, why is he proposing to hire 50,000 more police officers and 10,000 more prosecutors? As always, his lies are catching up with him, the Clinton clone.

Sick reflection

Television is nothing more than violence, sex and propaganda. It's is not worth wasting your time on. Better to read a good book or visit with your neighbors or your family. Television only reflects the sick society America has become under Clinton and Gore.

Run for mayor

I am so sick of reading Jim Drury in the Southeast Missourian. If Mr. Drury is so smart, why doesn't he run for mayor?

A telling question

I would like to make a comment about the question that was asked Al Gore. There was only one channel I know that showed it. It was C-SPAN. Gore was asked if two homosexuals want to get married in a church and the church refuses to marry them, should they have the right to sue the church. Gore said we need to move on, so evidently Gore is for homosexual rights and suing churches that refuse to marry them. What a great thing you Democrats have come up with . The only thing you people support is homosexuals and killing more babies.

All decent fellows

The Southeast Missourian recently argued that the GOP presidential ticket carries a standard of moral decency. Fair enough. Other morally decent presidents include Fillmore, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover and Carter.

That's no excuse

Thanks a lot, guys. I always invoke the fiscally prudent wisdom of the Southeast Missourian when my spouse clamors for taking on more debt by buying a hot tub, big-screen TV, BMW and other big-ticket items. So what do you do? You write an editorial making an argument that a city that doesn't take on debt is a city in trouble. I doubt if bankruptcy court will someday let me off the hook if I say, "But the Southeast Missourian said it was OK."

Fiscal deadbeats

When or how are you Republican fiscal deadbeats going to pay the national debt down to the level that it is was when Reagan Bush era started? Reagan was going to cut taxes and grow the economy enough to make up for the tax cut. Well we all know what happened. The debt quadrupled. Now the Bush kid is offering more of the same foolish answers. Turn honest and pay your bills, you fiscal deadbeats.

For the taxpayers

Everyone should appreciate Jim Drury. Everyone should appreciate Jim Drury. He is working for the taxpayers. He is the only person willing to spend his own money and represent the taxpayers. Sounds like the city is ripping us off.

Don't take the trees

I just heard that some people are talking about taking the trees down in front of the floodwall on Water Street in Cape, and I just think that would be a mistake. They soften the harsh wall and the utility wires and give a friendly, inviting, live feeling to the area.

Tax something else

IT SEEMS like everybody is in agreement on the hotel/motel tax. It's only costing the guests and the outsiders so much on every dollar. Let's add a 40-cent or 50-cent tax on every newspaper that Gary Rust prints, and let's see how his bottom line turns out. Every time you raise a tax on people, you lose some. So let's let someone else do it besides the hotels and motels.

Develop those views

I THINK Mr. Robinson's idea of developing Cape Rock Park is great. It would be used by visitors and Cape residents alike. Whoever heard of cutting down redbud and dogwood trees to clear out underbrush in a park? I think Mr. Muser has it all wrong. We need the scenic view of the river from Cape Rock Park. Let's get going before the new bridge is completed.
