They supply jobs
THE DEMOCRATS fought a stimulus package on the excuse that the big tax breaks went to corporations and businesses. Who in the world employs people? It's sure not poor folks or welfare recipients or unions. It's business. These are the people Democrats say are mean and hateful and want to starve you. When will some wake up to the fact when business prospers and grows, so does the employees and our country?
Keep them separate
IT REALLY irks me when ministers rant and rave about separation of church and state in order to keep their tax exemptions, yet feel free to interfere and criticize local government officials for doing their jobs. I suggest they mind their business of preaching the Gospel and let the prosecuting attorney do his job of enforcing the law.
Economic nonsense
I HAD to laugh now that Jared Brown has once again put some pie-in-the-sky economic theory in a letter to the editor. He states that for every dollar Missouri spends on this new stadium, it will receive $4. When will Missouri get that money back? That is what I call economic pie-in-the-sky. What I wouldn't give for a one-armed economist so I would never have to hear, "On the other hand ... ."
Beer in cups
WHAT'S THE matter with these people? It's a no-brainer. Don't sell bottled beer to football fans. Sell beer to them in a cup and let them throw the cups.
Dog needs attention
I HAVE a neighbor who keeps a dog tied up outside without any shelter, food or water. It's been that way for two months. I've called animal control. I've called the animal shelter. Neither organization has even come out to take a look. This dog is going to die as soon as cold weather gets here, and no one seems to care. Do we have animal control? Do we have an animal shelter that cares about animals? I wonder.
Dangerous curb
REGARDING THE roundabout at Silver Springs Road and Gordonville Road: Leave it to the city to do at least one thing wrong on every project. If you'll notice on the southeast quadrant of the roundabout, at the curb, they left one sharp corner that is going to eventually take out somebody's rear tire. It's just carelessness. I know the city hates to be questioned on anything it does. It figures it knows so much more than any civilian could ever know.
Take a close look
NOW THAT the Enron debacle is starting to unfold, it seems quite apparent that the energy market is in dire need of government control. When the seventh-largest company in the United States loses over 99 percent of its value in less than a year, it's time to look very closely at the Kinder-Morgan Power Co. deal in this area. The accounting at Enron left over $600 million of debt off the balance sheet. The whole mess needs to be thoroughly scrutinized.
Need vote on bonds
I WOULD like to comment about Cape County issuing bonds for P&G. I wish we could vote on these bonds. I'd vote no, and so would a lot of others.
Neighborhood policing
I'M IN bed and can't sleep because the neighbor kids have their car stereo so loud my windows are rattling. I'm just a block from Lexington. The neighborhood is going to the dogs. Almost every week the kids beat the mailboxes down. Three nights ago they walked around spraying all the parked cars with paint. They break windows. They steal stereos. Last spring they even took my hunting gun from my pickup after breaking in. The cops don't patrol the neighborhoods anymore. There is more to this city and to the cops' jobs than hanging around the bars waiting to nab drunk drivers.
Which is which?
I WANT to buy American cars like a caller suggested and shun foreign cars. However, it's so confusing with American cars being made in foreign countries and vice versa.
