Setting speed traps
I HAVE decided that the reason people complain about the speed traps in Cape Girardeau is because the speed limits are too low. I spent the weekend in two towns, one slightly larger than Cape, the other slightly smaller. Both towns had wonderful speed limits. A Kingshighway equivalent between Broadway and Williams was always a 45-mph speed limit. A nice four-lane highway like Highway 74 was 60 mph. And there were more stoplights. I think Cape has intentionally set the speed limits low to generate revenue.
No pity for doctors
AMEN TO the comment about getting appointments with doctors. If you have more than one concern by the end of what used to be a normal office visit, a person has amassed a $130 to $200 charge not counting lab tests and medications. That is why so many people don't go to the doctor unless they are deathly ill or until it is too late. Doctors complain about the high cost of malpractice insurance, but they are out on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. If money is so tight, then they should work a five-day week and see more patients.
Rebuked by doctor
RECENTLY I had a doctor chastise me for not coming back for my six-week appointment. In that time I'd had surgery and rehabilitation. His services were of no use to me. He refused to treat me because of that. I left his office so hurt, upset and mad that I let another human being talk to me in such a degrading manner. I am going to address the issue with that particular person, and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else seeking medical attention.
Quiet warrior
I WISH we had more Harry Schulers in the world. He was a quiet warrior.
