No painted lines I'M TRAVELING from Scott City to Cape Girardeau at night going across the Diversion Channel Bridge. There's no way you can see where the bridge embankment is. There is no paint on either of the barricades. I am surprised there haven't been many more accidents because of this. Please, MoDOT, let's get some paint on that bridge on both sides, and especially on the northbound side...

Story shows AP bias

TO PROVE the bias of the Associated Press is to read the article "Jobless rate reaches nine-year high" on the front page. The article quotes John Sweeney of the AFL-CIO stating, "Unemployment under President Bush's administration is greater now than at any time in the last 10 years." Nowhere in the article does it mention the cause of the economic problem, although it states airlines have been hardest hit. This fact shows the impact that the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on America caused to our economy. The article never mentioned the attack. The only quote is from the president of a union. The Associated Press is like a fifth column operating in the United States.

Savage, uncivilized

OF COURSE the pro-abortion group does not want to acknowledge that a woman carrying a baby is committing a crime if she has it killed before it is born because they proclaim anything goes. They don't want to be responsible for the results of their loose living. They claim they have a right to get rid of the unwanted result, the baby, and not be held accountable for murdering the baby. How savage and uncivilized can a high court be to allow this carnage in our nation?

Not a civilized society

KILLING UNWANTED babies in the womb is the highest crime taking place in America today. It's going unpunished because the Supreme Court allows these women to kill their unwanted babies before they can be born, calling it a woman's choice. This is atrocious for a civilized society.

What about kooks?

PAUL GREENBERG writes that our newspapers should be a mix of straight news and assorted nuts. Well the Southeast Missourian sure qualifies.

Deciding factors

BUDGET INCREASES In these financially troubling and challenging times? What kind of sense does that make? Budget restraint and wise management should be the deciding factor in budget figures.

One down, many to go

IN SPITE of all the leftist political downplay of the liberation of Iraq, there is no denying that the world and all peace-loving people can see there is one less terrorist supporter and tyrant to molest and torture people and finance terrorists. The war on terrorism will continue, as President Bush said, until the job gets done. There is no peace while these terrorists are loose on the world. One down and many more to go until the world is free from terrorism.

She's a gutter fighter

FOR HILLARY Clinton to make a statement that President Bush's administration is waging war on children shows just how low power-hungry she is. She's a gutter fighter and not fit to be a senator, much less the president of our country. She has no morals or dignity at all.

Not safe on Ellis Street

WHERE IS help when you really need it? I live on Ellis Street. Drugs are being sold in front of our houses. People are getting shot. Where are the police. Why aren't they doing their job? You can't sit outside. What can you do about it? Ellis Street is a very bad place to live.

Counters are too tall

HAVE YOU noticed how stores are losing their customer friendly counters? Most stores do not have many employees for customer service, and we have to wait for someone to pull items down from the top two shelves. I bet shoplifters love these tall counters.

Desecrating our symbols

DESECRATING OUR American flag, the symbol of our democracy, is the same as treason and forfeits the rights of traitors. There is no protection in the Constitution for treason or those who perpetrate violence against American symbols. A man was executed for bombing the federal courthouse in Oklahoma City, so penalties should be extended to all who desecrate American symbols.
