Up to the court
I'M CALLING in reference to the comment that said the police should do something about the people speeding on Broadway and impose a higher fine or community service. The police don't do that. The municipal courts do that.
Argument for weapons
I WANT to comment on the shooting in Cape. It proves that it is imperative that the citizens have the right to carry concealed weapons. How many innocent people would have died at the hands of this man who had a mission in mind to kill? No matter what some will argue, a criminal will never abide by any laws. We need the right to protect ourselves and carry a firearm.
Stay within bounds
WE MUST get back to basic principals. Sex is intended to be kept within a marriage. When you choose to cross that boundary, lives are destroyed. Self-esteem deteriorates. Jealousy, failed trust and anger build. These feelings will lead to the destructive death of people and society.
Fund health care
PRESIDENT BUSH wants an exorbitant amount of money for war against terrorists. Congress should grant him some money for an effort to maintain peace. However, if we have enough to do that, we have another emergency that needs funding. We have over 43 million people without health care. If they can do that for war and for killing and for destroying nations, they can certainly get enough money to help the people who are in need of health care and see that they get health insurance. A lot of those people paid taxes and fought in a war and supported war in the past.
Cost-saving advice
SUNDAY'S ARTICLE about a pedestrian bridge on the south end of town has me all confused. Let me see if I have this straight. You have vandals destroying public property, so the solution is to spend $200,000 for a pedestrian bridge. I have a more cost-effective solution. For only $25,000, you could take down the five-foot chain link fence and replace it with a ten-foot chain link with razor wire. Problem solved. Cost savings: $175,000.
Things to come
I JUST wanted to say the gun battle in Cape the other day was just a preview of what will happen if everybody's allowed to carry guns.
Disgraceful activity
I READ in the paper and heard on the news about government employees charging personal items and gifts on government credit cards. The leaders of these people are not doing their job. I guess as long as taxpayers are paying for it, it's OK. Taxpayers get stuck with everything else. It's a disgrace that people can get by with this. There are high-paid people working for government who should be watching out for things like this. Where are they? They should be fired.
Molestation secrets
I GET tired of people judging individuals on why they kept being molested as a child a secret and now are saying something about it as an adult. I too was molested by my father as a child over 20 years ago. I don't tell people because I don't want my children to be teased and told that their grandfather was a child molester. I keep my children away from him, and I don't feel sorry for him as he lies dying in the nursing home.
Close another bar
I'M CALLING in regard to the shooting at Ed's Bar on Good Hope Street. Why aren't they going to close down that bar now? They've already closed down the Taste Lounge. It's awful funny that it's all right when white people get shot. Not one black person ever got shot inside of the Taste Lounge. Let's see the cops sit outside of Ed's Bar at all hours of the night waiting for the white people to come out drunk. Cape is so prejudiced.
Leaders like them
YES, I can imagine having Joe Lieberman and Al Gore in times like these. We would have these leaders if we had had a fair election. Just for the record, we Democrats are alive and well, thank you.
Colorful reading
THANK YOU for publishing the article on synesthesia, an alternate method of perception whereby printed words burst with color. That explains the reason why virtually every time I read Southeast Missourian editorials I see red.
