Generic drugs

I don't know how many people are watching Channel 12 tonight, but they're talking about a generic drug, which is a drug which I as a pharmaceutical salesman sold from the time it was approved by the FDA until I retired. And this is a generic drug. Now, people may try to tell you how good they are. I had a nurse try to tell me how good generics were and what a big favor she was going to do by letting me take generics. But I was in the hospital last year for two weeks. I asked five doctors who made generics or where the generics were made. And after a short hesitation, all of them said, "No." So, people, when you get generics, they may be cheaper. If they work, that's good. But nobody knows where they come from. The pharmacist doesn't know. The doctor doesn't know. It's whoever supplies the person that dispenses these drugs. That's the one that decides what they're going to buy. It's not a doctor. It's not a medical person. And that is kind of a slam on health care, I think.

Golf, terrorism

It's nice to know President Obama goes out and plays golf while our Americans are getting beheaded over there in the Far East. What I think would be neat is to close Guantanamo Bay down, transfer all those inmates to Pelican Bay out in California. And then, for a mysterious reason, the guards have to turn their heads for 20 minutes, and videotape what the inmates are doing to them. Thank you. And then show it on TV.

Weather pattern

I just read the article on the front page of Wednesday's edition about the "Melting sea ice may lead to colder weather." Using that line of thinking, I could suppose that increase sea ice would lead to warmer weather. It's amazing how much these people believe that just isn't so.

History lesson

If you don't remember history, history will repeat itself. These people that want to be paid $15 an hour at McDonald's, look what happened to the auto industry. They just went automatic, built robots and stuff. Here in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at these McDonald's, the worker in there pushes how big of a cup you want. The cup falls, the ice falls in it and the soda. Who needs a worker there? They could have that hooked up where you could push a button outside.

Slow down

Just recently in Jackson they started an east Jackson school building, a new one. And then they also gave raises last year to the county employees. And there's new items that they keep coming up with, but there's less jobs, less money coming in. Where does the money come from? And now they just put in the paper, they're raising our taxes by a few more dollars. When does it end? And how do we slow down with no wages and no jobs out there?

Tax increase

I was reading in the paper today about the property tax increase. Went up considerably. The way I figure it, that's a 36.24 percent increase over last year. That means for every $3 in taxes I paid last year, I'm going to pay another dollar this year, a little bit more.

Taxes vs. lottery

I don't understand people in this area. Every time a tax issue comes up on the ballot, they vote it down. But now I work at a convenience store, and we average over $1,000 a day in lottery sales. Don't they realize that's just another way of getting tax money from you?

Keep Cottonwood

It is imperative that Cottonwood stays open. These kids are our future. They are the future leaders of America, and without Cottonwood to aid them in their daily struggles and transitions I shudder to think what this country will be like. Without Cottonwood my son may have died. He was there more than 15 years ago, and it was the best thing for him.
