THE apparently never-ending dilemma for public schools that don't have the advantageous luxury afforded other types of schools is that they have to figure out a way to educate those who don't want to be there.

Rock on

TEACHERS have some of the most unappreciated jobs in society. I'm tired of hearing others bash teachers on how much they are overpaid. They are a major backbone of our society, and they don't get enough credit for what they do and go through. Get off the "how unprofessional" they dress. Forget "professional" and think "appropriate." I say rock on, teachers.

COLUMNIST Mike Jensen recently deemed that controlling spending is the way to get our economy under control. What Jensen identifies as the problem is actually the solution. The government has been semisuccessful with its stimulus programs. Consumers are saving instead of spending. Banks and businesses are sitting on billions of dollars, apparently taking Jensen's advice. Our economy essentially rests on consumer spending, and the more Jensen and his cronies encourage consumer and government saving, the worse things will get.
