Living wage

Here's the deal as concerns Cape Girardeau County: According to what is called the Living Wage Calculator, the living wage for a parent with a spouse and 2 children is $21.27 per hour, the minimum wage is $7.50 per hour. Thus, the wage gap is $14.07. Not good.

Vet says thanks

I live at the VA home here in Cape. And last Friday we went down to the Bloomfield cemetery to go fishing at the conservation lake. And we all had a great time. We caught so many fish, it wasn't funny. And we would just like to thank all the people, the conservation, the people at the cemetery, and all the people who helped clean, cook the fish and everything, all the women who cooked the meal. It was a delicious meal.

Brand of Christianity

I have to admit I just feel weary when I read comments in this section that state things like "God doesn't want this" or "God hates that." I must have been raised under a very different idea of Christianity than some people, because I was taught that God is infinitely knowledgeable and infinitely wise, and it isn't for you or me or anyone else to decide what God thinks. And I was definitely taught that God is, above all else, loving and forgiving. If you want to spew hate speech at people, that's your business. But don't bring the God who sent his son to die for us, the son who preached forgiveness and who welcomed prostitutes and the sick to him, into your hatred.
