Rent control

We need a rent-control law here in Cape. The rent is just outrageous.

Respiratory issue

Yes, I would like to know, all these kids that are coming down with this respiratory sickness here in the Midwest, I would like to know how many of these illegal alien children are coming in there, such as from Guatemala and other countries. Because here in the United States they quit vaccinating against certain childhood diseases, because they were done with. And now we have these kids coming here illegally from other countries, which we don't even know what they have. So, thank President Obama for your child getting sick.

Switch discipline

Are these people trying to kid me? I wish I had a nickel for every time my dad switched my legs. And it was good for me.

Concert coverage

Why is it that the Demo Derby can make the front page of the paper but a Christian band cannot? Yes, there are pictures of Jeremy Camp on the website, but no mention of how the concert went. This is sad really.

Red carpet?

When "Gone Girl" premieres in Cape, will they have the red carpet out for extras who may/may not appear in the movie? Will they arrive in limousines?

Poverty

A new report from the Census Bureau shows poverty rates in the U.S. are down for the first time since 2006. The report states the official poverty rate in 2013 was 14.5 percent, down from 15 percent in 2012. Data shows 45.3 million people lived in poverty in 2013. Some attribute the lower numbers to a recovering economy. With the gap that keeps widening of the rich and middle class and poor, there is no way the poverty rates can be lower. They are just presenting a snow job for the coming elections just as the snow job the northern states received last week. Food prices have gotten out of site and everything else is going up too.

Gov't lunches

It was refreshing to read the article about two schools opting out of government school lunches. I have a news flash for Michelle Obama. Kids are not getting fat at school! Kids need food that tastes good. There was an article a week or so ago about public schools praising the government restrictions on school lunches. Good intentions do not make food taste good!

MoDOT work

It is MoDOT's job to keep up the state highways, even when a railroad is concerned?

Obamacare result

In what can only be described as a colossal "duh!" moment, even a liberal, Federal Reserve survey shows that 20 percent of small businesses are laying off people and refusing to hire new ones, while at the same time are reducing hours to avoid the additional, astronomical cost and burdens assigned by Obamacare. Wow, what a surprise. As every thinking person knew ... Anybody that had an I.Q. in the double digits or better knew that this was going to happen. Why didn't our president?

Stop ridicule

I am very tired of the bashing of law enforcement and teachers in the whole community. The whole world is bashing teachers and law enforcement. They were once the respected professions that keep our world and community safe. They also educate our world for future jobs, for better jobs. Nobody would have a job without a teacher. Once there was respect for law enforcement and teachers, and now law enforcement officers are so ridiculed. Yes, you've got bad in every profession. There's bad doctors, bad salesmen, bad bankers. And, yes, there's going to be a bad teacher or bad law enforcement, but the whole world is painting it differently.
