Post office

IF the postal officials come to your town to discuss closing your small post office, you might as well consider it already closed. Your opinions will fall on deaf ears. You will be much better off by calling your local congressman and voicing your opinion.

Monument crack

THE crack in the Washington Monument is simply the divide in Congress expanding.

Predictable Limbaugh

I checked in a phraseology reference book to see the meaning of "the pot calling the kettle black." In addition to a definition, it gave a current example, that being David Limbaugh referring to the president as predictable.

Foreign policy

THANK you, President Obama, for exerting just the right amount of force resulting in the overthrow of the Libyan tyrant, Muammar Gaddafi. When it comes to defense and foreign policy, you have completely emasculated your Republican critics who do little more than whine and complain that you're doing too much or not enough. Not one U.S. soldier was lost in the Libyan campaign.

Secession talk

GOV. Rick Perry has been criticized for his comment about secession. But since Obama has added seven states to the union and has spoken about visiting all fifty-seven states, it is Obama that I would like to see secede from the union. And, while he is at it, I hope he takes all seven of the additional states with him: Nanny State, Bankrupt State, BashAmerica State, Brownout State, Vacation State, Red Tape State and Welfare Bait State.

Veterans' benefits

I am glad to see so many opportunities in Illinois for veterans. It is too bad Missouri cannot follow suit. Illinois veterans attend school for free, and now they get preferential hiring for the highway department. Where are the benefits in Missouri for veterans?

Joplin support

THOUGH even the likes of Rush Limbaugh praised FEMA's efforts in Joplin, a know-nothing Speak Out caller seemed to think Joplin residents began and continue the laborious process of rebuilding without any assistance for the nation's society as a whole, known as our federal government.

Facebook Law

REPUBLICAN state Sen. Jane Cunningham, the sponsor of the freedom-destroying Facebook Law, should resign from office. The rest of the legislators (which means all of them) who voted in lock-step with Cunningham should be ashamed, subjected to recall efforts, or should do the right thing and resign. The governor who signed it, Jay Nixon, must also go.

Farmer's Market

WE really have been happy that the Jackson Farmer's Market has moved to the city park and visit it every Tuesday. The signs and website say that it is also held there on Saturday mornings, but we tried to go on Saturday and there was nothing there or a sign explaining why not. Would someone in Jackson please let us know if it is still held on Saturdays and where the market has gone.
