Littering problem

TO the people traveling on Big Bend Road and Bertling Street, after living on Big Bend Road for 46 years, it is appalling to see all the trash on Bertling. Trash your trash at home.

America affordability

IF it's true that America is the land of the free and home of the brave, why is it that the majority of us can no longer afford to live here?

Stoplight needed

THIS is about the Cape Rock Drive and Perryville Road four-way stop. I have seen I don't know how many wrecks happen there, and I have lived in this town since 1972. Every time you turn around, no matter what time of day or night, there are always wrecks there and traffic is horrible. You would think by now that they would put up a stoplight.

‘I' reference

THE only reason President Obama uses the word "I" so little is so people will blame him less. If he says "we" and points the finger at the Republicans, all of his followers will believe him. Even if he's lying.

Disapproval rate

CONGRATULATIONS to Congress for making history. For the first time ever, Congress has broken through the 80 percent barrier in its rate of disapproval.

Jackson mascot

I read the defense of Jackson's current name for its teams, but I still think it would be best to refer to them as the Jackson Native Americans.

Generic candidate

I take pride in keeping up with politics. However, I need some help. Not one major Republican candidate currently defeats President Obama in a one-on-one matchup, except for one, and I can't find out anything about him or her. Maybe someone else knows the identity of this Republican candidate. Who is Generic?

Employment and war

EMPLOYMENT grew by about 1.32 million during Bush's six years in office. Yes, but he started a war and that took a lot of national guardsmen out of the workforce, so there had to be people hired to fill those jobs that were left when the National Guard members were activated, which put us into this deep debt of paying for this war that wasn't needed.

Texas jobs

TO argue that our federal government can't create any jobs is flat out wrong. If you don't believe me, ask Rick Perry. Our national government was ultimately responsible for creating so many jobs in Texas for which "Ponzi scheme" Perry erroneously takes credit.

Use bike trail

TO the biker on Route W, you need to be on the bike trail that Cape Girardeau so nicely put in for you and the joggers in this area. If you don't want to be almost hit, don't be on a road that has the curves that Route W has.

Birth announcements

RESPONDING to "Get married": Some brides choose not to change their last names when they marry. That is part of the reason for birth announcements with moms and dads of different last names.

Kudos to Crowell

KUDOS to State Sen. Jason Crowell. Perhaps Crowell has come to the correct conclusion that if it's time to cut back on welfare for the poor, then it's also time to cut back on business and corporate welfare through various tax incentives (meaning tax breaks or subsidies) and the like.

Deficient bridges

WOW, Missouri has the seventh worst percentage of structurally deficient bridges in the whole nation, a staggering 17 percent.

Position promotion

I work in a customer-service related job with a lot of other people. I try to be honest, kind, always do the right thing. Why is it when there's a position that opens up, it's always the person that's given the company grief and caused trouble for years who gets the position over the honest man?

Magazine subscription

IF you have a favorite magazine, you need to see about getting a two- or three-year subscription to it now. If you get a three-year subscription to a magazine, even if the post office triples or quadruples the postage on those in the next year or two, then they still have to deliver that magazine for whatever you paid for it.

Crowell comment

STATE Sen. Jason Crowell has always been nice and polite and just the best person any time I've ever been around him. But I've heard that there's a mean side to Sen. Crowell. Now it's confirmed in the newspaper that he hates the guts of his own party's leadership and they hate him. That's not a good thing to say and not good to be published in the newspaper. He needs to get along with his own leadership and he needs to get along with everybody in the State Senate.

Somalia aid

I would like to know how our government can send billions of dollars over to Somalia but we can't even take care of our elderly people in America. I just don't get it. It's not right.
