I'M calling with regard to Wally Lage's terribly unfortunate passing. I knew him casually, along with his wife and some of their family members. He was a wonderful man. I have been following the tributes in the paper, and I am touched by his daughter's comments, "Truck's leaving" by Jenny Shaffer. It was a lovely, moving tribute to a wonderful man...
Lovely tribute
I'M calling with regard to Wally Lage's terribly unfortunate passing. I knew him casually, along with his wife and some of their family members. He was a wonderful man. I have been following the tributes in the paper, and I am touched by his daughter's comments, "Truck's leaving" by Jenny Shaffer. It was a lovely, moving tribute to a wonderful man.
Doc in flip-flops
JUST one more comment regarding flip-flops: I went to the doctor this week, and guess who had flip-flops on? My female doctor. Talk about unprofessional.
Calling names
MIDDLE school coaches: I commend you for getting your children to the park and walking around the lake first thing in the morning. I'm sure it helps them to sit still and learn the rest of the day. However, it is not appropriate to call them names to get them to step it up and to walk faster. I don't want to hear it again.
Casino choice
I'M so happy the city chose Isle of Capri to develop a casino in Cape Girardeau. If it is built, I can save on gas. I'm proud of our council.

Casino prospects
LET me get this straight. If everything goes as planned, we are going to have a fantastic, thriving crime-free and benevolent downtown area by having a casino and a homeless shelter. The homeless wandering the streets during the day will certainly be a lure to draw the thousands of gamblers proposed. Of course, the casino could put the homeless to work, which would mean those locals who are counting on casino jobs to solve all their problems would have no employment. Another great benefit will be when the casinos install ATMs so welfare recipients can use them to cash their debit cards as they did in California to the tune of $4 million. Ain't life grand?
Snake-oil faith
ONE of the best sermons I've ever heard involved excessive demonstration of faith. The message was that demonstrating faith should never look competitive. Think about how many political leaders and television personalities are boasting about their faith and even berating others for supposedly having less. The original sermon didn't use the term snake oil, but that describes pretty well anyone who makes millions of dollars by inflating their message with proclamations of faith.
Judging others
REGARDING the comment about spiky hair: I wonder how people can feel so superior that they feel they are in a position to judge other people, especially on superficial things like appearance. I guess their hearts must be programmed that way. Don't they realize that we're not supposed to judge others?
Looking forward
WHY did only 60 people show up at the widely publicized Cape Girardeau County Tea Party gathering? Because the focus of tea party movement is not about recognizing any past individual in history. It's about the future. It's about changing the direction of our current government away from liberal socialism and back toward the Constitution upon which our country was founded. Let's not allow baseless criticism of the tea party movement to turn it into another politically correct operation and derail it from the goal of shaking up the political establishment and working for a fiscally responsible and constitutionally limited-powers government.
