I WAS reading the letter from a woman complaining that her husband was laid off and the only reason they can figure out is because the company wanted to keep them in poverty. I know a lot of people who do their jobs, have a nice home and a new car. They are not living in poverty. They do their work and keep their mouths shut.

Fireworks blasphemy

TO THE person who gave us the message from God to quit our fireworks in Jackson: This is blasphemy. Don't insinuate that God wants us to stop our fireworks. Read the Bible. Giving false testimony to the contents of the Bible is a grave sin. Go to church.

Declare war on CEOs

WHY HASN'T President Bush declared war against the CEOs? They are worst terrorists and have destroyed more lives than any Sept. 11 ever did.

Traffic-jam charities

WHEN YOU get off Interstate 55 at Scott City, Mo., all these people are standing there collecting money for various causes. I don't know why these different groups don't wash cars or do something for the money. It does nothing but cause a traffic jam there with people trying to get through the green light.

Heat in the kitchen

IF PRESIDENT Bush wants to take praise when things are going good, then by golly he can take the fault if things are going bad. Republicans dished it out when Clinton was in office. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Taking a percentage

I WANT to respond to the person asking who pays the phone solicitors. It's not tax money that pays them. They usually get a commission on the funds they raise. Every time you donate a dollar, there's a certain percentage that is taken out for administrative purposes. It makes it very frustrating when you think your entire donation is going to help somebody when, in fact, it pays somebody to make phone calls and collect that money.
