WHY purchase the old federal building? It's only 40-plus years old, needs roof repair, window repair, door replacement, elevator work, bathroom work, sprinkler work, telephone wiring, ceiling repair, painting, carpet, asbestos removal and another courtroom. All of this plus the cost of a building with no parking. What a money pit for the county.
TONIGHT I sat in the rain, umbrella in one hand, eating pizza with the other, listening to the sounds of the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band at Capaha Park. I am sorry to say this was the first concert I attended in many a year. It was outstanding. I am sorry more people were not there to hear it. The man who sang brought tears to my wife's eyes. To top it off, two young women from the Central Tigers directed one of the numbers. You think America's got talent? Cape has talent. Thank you to all these talented folks for sharing with us. It won't be long before I return to hear the band again.
I love the picture of the white deer, but why did the Southeast Missourian publish where the picture was taken? I hope everyone leaves this deer alone and lets it reach adulthood to produce other white deer. Isn't it beautiful?
YOUR recent editorial said the effort to amend Missouri's constitution would be "an effort to protect fairness, not stop union organization." This is shameless Orwellian, Southeast Missourian-speak, since the exact opposite is true. This is an effort is to end fairness and stop unionization.
SORRY, Mitch Albom, but three cheers for class warfare, at least the way it has been going this time. For decades class warfare was directed at the middle class and poor by the rich, and the rich were winning. Now, the middle class and poor have taken the initiative and are winning the war. The indignant upper class is screaming about the evils of class warfare only because this time they are on the defensive.
I hope the improvements at the Highway 146/3 junction in Illinois include signals or some sort of turn controls. There are not even any yield signs now for turning traffic.
