I love our President. He loves our country.
We had an opportunity to elect Senator McCain as our President. We chose instead to elect a completely unremarkable community organizer who oversaw a loss of more than 1,000 Democrat legislative seats while spending a trillion dollar stimulus and whose single greatest accomplishment was paving the way for Donald Trump's Presidency. We had our chance to honor John McCain.
Jack Dragoni is the only Southeast Missourian published columnist who doesn't cower from telling the truths most readers don't want to hear.
Adrienne Ross had a good column criticizing those who attacked Senator John McCain after his death. Surely she recognizes that much of the postmortem McCain bashing was enabled and promoted by a president I assume Ross still supports, the petty and small-minded Donald J. Trump.
Why is the City of Cape so determined to decimate the trees in some of our most picturesque neighborhoods? Bessie Street looks like a bomb went off! The trees in that neighborhood are old, fully grown trees that we will not be able to grow again in our lifetimes. All for the sake of wider sidewalks! They also plan to destroy hundreds of trees and encroach upon front lawns from Rose St. to Bertling on West End Boulevard.
Maybe now David Limbaugh or some other right-wing luminary will write a pro-Trump column telling us how well he handled the passing of John McCain. Imagine if Obama or Hillary had done it the same way. You'd never hear the end of how terrible, unpatriotic and un-American it was.
Recently the governor of New York said, "We're not going to make America great again. It was never that great." Well, that was a very stupid thing to say, but coming from a New York politician, it doesn't surprise me. I have also read that some millennials are agreeing with that statement. I would suggest they go back to high school and retake some of their history classes to really understand how great this country is and all that has been sacrificed. And if they still think that way, there are many forms of transportation that can take them to live somewhere else that can offer them a better life than the United States. Don't let the door hit you on your way out!
