This is in reply to the person wondering if he or she was speaking for the entire readership of the Southeast Missourian in wishing President Bill Clinton a happy birthday. This does not represent my opinion at all. While I don't wish him ill, I really am not pleased at all with his performance past and present, and that goes double for his lovely wife.
For you people who despise Rush Limbaugh so much, why do you listen to someone you despise that much? Don't say you don't listen because you couldn't quote him if you hadn't listened to him, and you quote him a lot. I would suggest if you just don't like a man, you should change the station. But it might be that you enjoy being negative about anything.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is wading into Missouri's political battle over tax cuts. We don't want him here, and his Republican party didn't want him for president either. Isn't that telling you something?
The ofttimes haughty online Huffington Post at least had a reputation for being a progressive magazine, but it must now take a back seat to the Southeast Missourian since it is apparently, according to Arianna Huffington, no longer going to allow even invaluable, dare I say, priceless, anonymous commentary.
Congratulations to Blanchard Elementary staff and students for the outstanding scores on the MAP test. However, instead of laudatory kudos, we should be focusing very specifically on the philosophy and techniques of that particular school so that schools in Cape's and other school districts might benefit from Blanchard's example. We need data-driven documentation of the key or keys to success, not just well-deserved but anecdotal opinion. Blanchard Elementary would seem to provide fertile ground for serious educational researchers looking for workable school solutions.
In the Aug. 26 edition, the front-page headline was "Jackson aces accreditation ratings." In the article, six schools were listed as having high scores: Jackson, Cape Girardeau, Advance, Perryville, Scott City and Woodland. Oak Ridge was not listed, even though they had the highest score in the area, with a 97.1 percent. So the headline should have read "Oak Ridge aces accreditation ratings." This is what I believe to be an obvious slight to Oak Ridge Schools. A full apology to the school and a front page correction should be made.
I'm so excited that my favorite steakhouse and favorite seafood restaurant are now smoke free. Looks like Cape Girardeau has finally figured out it's not good to have smoking around food.
I can't imagine that someone has so little going on in their lives that they would worry that the Missouri flag said "Missouri" on it. They also trashed the lady from Cape who made the flag. I think the flag is beautiful.
I just saw where we're funding a dog park from casino money. How about if we used the money for something worthwhile, like fixing the streets that are full of potholes and striping the lanes so we can see them when it rains. I don't know who's in charge of this, but a dog park is a waste of money.
Guess what we got in the mail today? We got a letter saying our medical benefits will change in 2014. You can bet your bottom dollar that it won't be for the best. Thank you, Obamacare, and to all the people who put him in a second time. He's ruining our country.
