I want to commend the Joint Veterans Council for the beautiful fireworks display this year. This was the most beautiful display we've ever had at Arena Park. I wish there was a rule that there could not be any other fireworks set off around the people who want to watch the display. That is dangerous.
I would like to point out that people are not bashing illegals. It appears there is something going on where illegals are hired and housed in an underground system that takes advantage of them. They have no rights here, sneaking and being hidden. What kind of life can that be? They will never have anything nor own anything. To me this amounts to slavery. I wish the illegals would wake up to the fact they are being taken advantage of and strive to enter legally. Their lives could be so much better than they could ever imagine, in the long run, if they would obey the law and become productive citizens. I pity the children of the illegals who have to go through this hiding out and moving. Shame on the people taking advantage of them.
NOT very many fireworks violations? In my neighborhood on North West End Boulevard, every night my neighbors shot fireworks until 2 or 3 a.m. Some of them were so powerful you could feel them. They were still shooting them Sunday, paying absolutely no attention to the deadline. They were so loud and continuous we could not hear our TV. It is ridiculous that a town of this size would be so lax with the rules.
WE have had enough about Michael Jackson. Not everybody loved him, was his fan or loved his music. The news media have gone nuts.
HELLO, Cape Girardeau. I've been here 67 years. I want to thank everybody for all the good things that have come along in Cape since I've been here, especially those who are in charge today.
I'M reading about the health-care bill Congress is considering. The Congressional Budget Office puts the cost at a little over $600 billion a year. After about probably 10 years, it will end up costing $5 trillion to $10 trillion. Look at the estimate for the cost of Medicare and see what the cost is today. That will tell you how accurate the CBO is.
I would like to thank the Southeast Missourian and Hobby Lobby for publishing the full-page "In God We Trust" ad that was in the paper. It certainly went a long way to refute the ignorant comments some people have voiced in Speak Out that this is not a Christian nation, that our Founders didn't mean it to be. It is a Christian nation. It was always meant to be one. Half of my family is Christian, the other half is not. It makes a huge different at how they look at things and how they approach the end of their life here on Earth.
I wish people would use their blinkers while driving. There is nothing more irritating than driving behind someone who doesn't use his blinkers before turning.
