I've been watching the lady representative in Texas complaining how the big, bad, mean Republicans are bullying women. Women who wait

I've been watching the lady representative in Texas complaining how the big, bad, mean Republicans are bullying women. My question is, why would a woman wait 20 weeks or more before having an abortion? That baby is viable, but yet they want to wait until the baby is close to being born before they have an abortion. I can't figure why women wait that long, because in essence they are killing a human being. Mothers are supposed to take care of their children, and even if the baby isn't born yet they should take care of their child.

Churches and gays

It was disheartening to hear that many so-called Christian churches rang their bells after the Supreme Court declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. Jesus defined marriage as being between one man and one woman in the books of Mark and Matthew. Many churches today are teaching that Jesus was wrong.

Taxes and vehicles

I just heard that Cape will be seeking another restaurant tax. I want to say I will not be voting yes on any tax increase, even for police protection, until the city provides an accurate accounting of the new vehicles it buys for the parks department every year.

Jesse and Paula

I had not heard that Jesse Jackson wanted to have Paula Deen investigated. All I have heard is that he wanted people to accept her apology.

Enforce the law

We live in a country of laws, and even the President of the United States is supposed to follow them. There was a law passed for the Affordable Health Care Act. I don't agree with it, but it was passed and became the law. Now the president has decided that he won't implement parts of the law for one year. I don't think the president has the authority not to implement a law. After he signed the law, it became the law. He has to enforce all of the laws.

Obama's penalty

Obama is going to give small businesses another year to comply with the health-care bill, but he's going to leave the individual mandate in place. He's actually going to fine people who don't have health insurance, even those who want to work but can't find a job. I don't understand how that's possible. This is just another reason why we have the wrong president in office.

Consumption tax

This is concerning the comment against a consumption tax. When you take away corporate income taxes, product costs will come down and competition will bring prices down. Therefore you will be paying approximately the same for items. The good, of course, is that everybody pays something toward the upkeep of this bloated government. And just think what you will save by not having to pay to have your taxes done.

Back to school

Teachers, it's time to get pumped. Arriving shortly in snail or email form will be your annual, "Where has the summer gone?" letter.

Other opinions

This is in response to the "other opinions" comment in the June 28 Speak Out. Obviously you have been reading and watching media that reinforces your liberal opinions also. But just for your information, Cass Sunstein has been Obama's regulatory czar for the last few years. You really think he has brought about a simpler government? You are blind to facts if you think that. And you really think we should get our history from Oliver Stone? And Obama has been following Paul Krugman's economic philosophy and it's not working. Please use some common sense before you rant on.

Limbaugh, GOP base

Rarely if ever have I agreed with Rush Limbaugh. However, I think he was spot on when he recently said the Republican Party establishment is embarrassed by its own base.

Teacher pay

I love how the Cape Girardeau Public School budget article left out a bit of key information. It failed to mention how many of the high school staff didn't get replaced for next school year. It also failed to mention how far behind the school district teachers' salaries are compared to other school districts with similar demographics. Then you look at the administration salaries compared to other school districts with similar demographics and Cape is better or very comparable. Good job making yourself look good, school board. A 3 percent raise is laughable.

Double standard

The Paula Deen controversy is really a big to-do about nothing. A majority of people have used the "N word" at least once in their lifetime. Remember, black rap singers use this word and much worse all the time in their lyrics and nothing is said or done about it. What a double standard. Why berate Paula Deen when the rappers are 1,000-times more offensive with their crude lyrics and disrespect for women, which is then upheld as "freedom of speech." Why not give Paula freedom of speech as well? Topics on many of the daytime talk shows are more offensive to sensitive ears than Paula's words. Leave the woman alone.

Be grateful

For those whining about $3 per gallon gas, perhaps you would prefer the $6 to $9 per gallon the rest of the industrialized world has to pay? Appreciate what you have.
