Pitch in and help

I HAVE to agree with the comment that Marble Hill is in need of a cleanup, but why is this person asking the city to step in when it should be our job as members of the community to hold ourselves responsible? Instead of complaining, why not ask your neighbors if they need help cutting the grass? Take a few extra minutes and pick up that piece of paper lying on the ground. We need each other as well as each person to do his part. Regarding the new sign for the Marble Hill Fire Department: We were only a small part of that project. Many local businesses made it happen. Our community can grow and shine, but it takes personal pride in our community to make it happen. If you have the time and energy to complain, you have time to help someone else.

No vision for change

ANOTHER PARK is just what Marble Hill needs. There are four parks that the city can't keep up. There was a time when Marble Hill and Lutesville were great places. When the two merged was the beginning of the end. The city has failed. There is no vision for real change. Look at all the empty buildings. It's sad. Why could the county not buy one of those buildings for the local library?

Time for action

FUEL PRICE hikes are a result of poor leadership on the energy front for decades by members of Congress. Until the leaders in Congress and the people of our great republic get fed up enough to take action, we will continue to live in total frustration. It is time for a Boston Tea Party of oil. It is time to take control of our own destiny. Who will take the lead?

Keeping track

SOMEONE SAID they'd observed a highway patrolman ignoring a motorist running a stoplight. They said if they'd gotten the officer's license number they'd have reported him. More people need to do just that. Maybe then the higher-ups would listen. I have observed two officers repeatedly not only ignoring lawbreakers but breaking the law themselves. I began calling their supervisor, who gave me the brush-off every time. One time he said he didn't care if his officers broke the law. I kept my list of dates and what I saw and finally sent it to Jefferson City to the head of the highway patrol. I called to follow up. I was told it was under consideration. Six months later, I'm still keeping a log of these same two officers. I'll send it in again fairly soon. Something needs to be done. Just yesterday, one of these two men drove 50 mph and above in the Jackson city limits, from Pioneer Orchard to McDonald's. He stopped there, so I followed him inside. He ordered food and sat down to eat it. No emergency there.
