Climate change 4ever

As a college student many years ago, I was required to read Dr. Paul Ehrlich's book, "The Population Bomb," written in 1968. Among his predictions was that by 1980, our coastlines would be uninhabitable because all sea life would die and the stench from rotting fish would make life unbearable there. He said that by 1985, famine would be widespread in America and that India, Egypt and Great Britain would cease to exist because they couldn't feed the population. The reason I mention this is that 83-year-old Dr. Ehrlich is now one of the leading proponents of the climate change hoax. Anyone who has ever taken a physical science class knows that the climate has always changed and that sea levels have always risen and fallen and this happened long before humans existed. If the climate change hucksters -- and that includes the Pope -- can convince enough people that man is the cause of climate change, then they will be able to take away basic freedoms and dictate the way one lives his life.

Wolf at the door?

I want to comment something about Donald Trump running for president. He's now said that if he doesn't win the Republican nod, he may run as an Independent. Now think back: If it hadn't been for Ross Perot, Bill Clinton never would have won any of the races that he won. Perot took and divided a lot of the Republican votes and it allowed Clinton to get in. This could be the same thing. It could even be Clinton. I've always thought Clinton had something to do with Perot running, helping him run. This could be the same thing. Donald Trump, well, I've heard he used to be a Democrat. I don't know how you could be pro-life and pro-family -- it wasn't that way before you suddenly flipped. I know Clinton was pro-life and then become pro-abortion after he got in the White House. And he switched. I know politicians do that, but I'm very concerned that this could be what Donald Trump is doing. I like what he said, but could he be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Social insecurity

I've seen that they're predicting that Social Security is going to run out of funds in 2016. What Congress should do because they are the ones that have caused this to happen, is they should take all the things that have been added to Social Security, away from Social Security funding, and fund it through their appropriations. Then Social Security would remain the way it used to be and there will be excessive funds. But they've added so many things to it, they've actually stolen money from Social Security to buy votes and make themselves feel good.

Long live Jensen

I sincerely hope cranky, curmudgeonly columnist Mike Jensen has an extraordinary longevity gene so he will be around to see one of his recent observations judged the worst prediction in the history of journalism and the best ever example of the wish giving father to the thought. He wrote, "... history will surely record this (Obama) administration as a massively, unprecedented failure."

Good to see

I was thrilled to read that the NAACP is restarting a chapter in Cape Girardeau. The NAACP has long stood solidly against racism and there is certainly a need for it in our community. I hope all business, educational, service and other institutions are well represented in the local chapter. Congratulations to those who organized the new and, I'm confident, better than ever NAACP. Goodness knows, you are much needed if Cape Girardeau is to progress and thrive in the 21st century.

Personal obsession

Help me. I have what must be a form of hypergraphia, having obsessively submitted online and written Speak Out comments for as long as it has been possible to do so. Before that technology was available, I called in the comments, but always wrote them out beforehand. Surely there is something I can do to end this addiction, although cold turkey is not an option.

Kudos to you

I was amazed at the difference in the reporting of the shooting in Cape on the 29th. The article in the paper was full of details, while the live reports on TV told us exactly nothing. Good job, Missourian.
