Low music, no music
JOE SULLIVAN, people agree with you on your notion that there should be no music played in stores or restaurants. If played, it should be played low.
CHRISTMAS CAROLS that begin in September in stores wear out the holiday spirit.
HAVING A designated area for garage sales is nonsense, especially for people who can barely move their belongings from the basement to the front yard.
DURING A funeral procession, motorists were not pulling over. It was rude.
THANK YOU for putting the wonderful map of garage sales in the newspaper. It is helpful.
TAKE HEART, TJ Greaney, on what you say in your column. People do agree with what you have to say.
I'M GLAD to see that people have noticed the pains the Vietnam soldiers have gone through, especially after the war.
DISCARDED EMBRYOS can be adopted. They aren't all being destroyed as you are being led to believe. The research up to this point has been allowed for embryos about to be destroyed. The problem is that this is no longer enough for those who want to spend more money on this research. If the only success with embryo stem cells is only one rat versus success with adult stem cells, I don't want my tax dollars helping them chase rats down for cures.
CAPE GIRARDEAU County Commissioner Jay Purcell said most of the extra money to be raised by the sales-tax measure (Proposition 1) will be paid by outsiders who visit Cape Girardeau County to shop. Where does he think residents shop? Are there that many shoppers from outside the county shopping here? If so, where are they coming from? It is my opinion that Mr. Purcell is way off base on this.
IF THE proposed county sales-tax increase passes for roads and adding sheriff's deputies, what happens when the roads are all paved and we have a new crew of deputies and we don't have enough money to keep up the roads? The county commissioners will come right back at us for more money. Vote no.
TAX MONEY is made for the city folks as well as the county folks. The city folks need the potholes fixed, and the county folks need their roads fixed. It is all the same.
