I agree with Arizona about wanting to check IDs to see if a person is in the state illegally. Why should I, a citizen of the United States, have to show ID for cashing a check, to cross borders, to get my yearly flu shot and all the other many things? People who are suspected of being here illegally don't need to complain when U.S. citizens have to go through all this. They should go through it too, whether they're here legal or illegal.
EACH month it gets harder and harder to stretch the budget. I am sure the city feels the pinch also. I believe Cape Girardeau is fortunate to be considered for a gambling boat. Jobs and revenue would be the shot in the arm Cape Girardeau needs. Gamblers are going to gamble wherever they have to go. Cape Girardeau would be making a huge mistake by losing this moneymaker. There's only one other way to raise revenue: Raise taxes. It's time for Cape Girardeau to look to the future and grow.
LET'S be clear about this. There are many church people who would like to see a casino in Cape Girardeau.
IF the city would mow along Old Sprigg Street between Bertling Street and Lexington Avenue, that would be fantastic.
I don't care if a gambling boat comes or not, but I think a lot of businesses downtown are being given incorrect information. Do you think people are going to walk several blocks to your bar from the casino? Do you realize that bottles of beer at the casino will cost only $1.50? Do you realize that the casino will be allowed to serve alcoholic beverage until 3:30 in the morning? If you don't believe me, check out the bars in St. Louis. A lot of them are disappointed because the casinos get to stay open.
I am not ashamed of being against a casino. My conscience will be clear on Judgment Day. Think of all the unhappiness a casino would bring when someone loses all his money. Casinos are bad all around.
THE top five most influential, divisive, fear-mongering demagogues are 5. Michael Moore, (continues to be highly regarded as a great documentary journalist in liberal crowds), 4. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (believes tea parties are violent, terrorists), 3. Congressman Weiner (suggests Glenn Beck and AAA-rated Goldline are controlling gold prices and ripping people off), 2. Chris Matthews (he somehow gets people to believe he's unbiased while Obama gives him a thrill), 1. George Soros (throwing around billions of dollars to control the Democratic Party). Al Gore has dropped out of the top five because his sexual assault and climate change have been proven to be fantasy.
I strongly disagree with the comment that said Sean Hannity doesn't deserve to be in the top five demagogues. I love Sean Hannity and look to him for the gospel truth. I also think he is handsome and hasn't lost any of his good looks. In fact, I think he deserves to be the No. 1 demagogue.
I have heard about all kinds of budget cuts at lots of school districts, but no one is discussing sports. Surely at least a little bit could come from that department.
THE top five most influential, divisive, fear-mongering Democrats are 5. Keith Olbermann (could be No. 1 but is lesser known), 4. Congressman Barney Frank (believes Americans aren't smart enough to survive on their own without massive government intervention), 3. Barack Obama (accurately described as a socialist), 2. Harry Reid (still spewing liberal ignorance after all these years), 1. Nancy Pelosi (best at faking conciliatory psychoses). Barbara Boxer has dropped out of the top five because her phony concern and good looks faded long ago.
I am not against a casino itself. I am wary of the crime it will bring. If you don't think it will bring more crime, you are only fooling yourself. If you want to gamble your hard-earned money away, that is your freedom. Have at it.
WHILE waiting for the light to change at the William Street-Kingshighway intersection, I noticed all the cigarette butts that had been tossed to the left-turn median curb by other motorists. I couldn't believe how many there were. And I couldn't believe they hadn't been cleaned up. I also remembered that there was a big countywide push a few years ago to beautify the area, get rid of litter and prevent littering in general. Whatever became of that? I haven't heard anything about the anti-litter campaign for a long time. This is something that needs to be revived.
