Tax compromise

I'LL meet the Southeast Missourian editorial board halfway on its clarion call for still more tax breaks. Abolish the corporate income tax, but raise the capital gains and dividend taxes.

Picking channels

Citizens should be able to cherry-pick cable TV channels and not have to buy a whole package.

Choice of words

YOU professors can use the word "neoconservative" all you'd like. It doesn't change the fact that it does not register negatively with 98 percent of folks. On the other hand, the word "liberal" will continue to nauseate most people, who associate the word with all things that are wrong and immoral in America.

No signal

WHEN you are housebound you depend on television to pass time. Now you can't enjoy it. I bought the converter box. Now I have an antenna on my roof. A picture will come on for just about a minute, then it goes off. What do you do?

Save our country

PRESIDENT Obama travels trying to settle the world's unrest. I'm sure he's trying and soon he will realize our own country is going to destroy itself without a bomb. Drugs are going to destroy us. They make people do things that they otherwise wouldn't do normally.

Good idea

I believe installing alcohol monitors on cars is a fantastic idea. Driving under the influence is a huge problem. Maybe this will help the problem before it happens. The consequences after a DUI are routinely ignored.

Provide seating

UNTIL I was handicapped, I did not realize how some businesses don't have a chair or a bench for someone when they have a weak spell. It ought to be law that stores have to have places to sit when handicapped people are waiting to be served. There's nothing wrong with us spending our money. We just have a hard getting in and getting out.

It's our park too

I don't think is an oxymoron that tea parties are held in parks provided by taxpayer dollars. Why would you rent a house to live in when you own one?

Jackson Grinch

THE alderman in Jackson who thinks youths shooting fireworks is equivalent to bombs is like the Grinch who stole the Fourth of July, isn't he?

More than crumbs

TO the the person who attempted to demean those at the tea parties: Wise up. We who attended these tea parties work hard to pay the taxes that fund the parks we use for a couple of hours out of a year as a public meeting place to air our grievances. Those amenities did not come from government. They came from our hard-earned tax dollars. These parks have nothing to do with the Obama-maniacal power-grabbing, private-sector takeover, economy-killing and job-exporting programs, deceitful price-inflating taxes and irresponsible spending that should infuriate any true red-blooded, hard-working American. I paraphrase Sam Adams: If you prefer crumbs that fall from the king's table of tyranny over true freedom, liberty, opportunity and economical growth, then may your poverty chains lay lightly upon you, but stay out of our way. We ask not your counsel, nor your arms, and may posterity forget you were ever our countrymen.
