PRESIDENT Obama should stop being an actor. The campaign is over. He was elected president. He should stop posing for pictures for every magazine and be president by taking care of our economy and other issues.
IF the city is going to raise trash rates $2, then I expect my trash can to be emptied. The trash man came this morning. He took the bag that was on top. He didn't bother about picking up the can and dumping it.
I was reading an article posted about particular dog breeds and read the two most wonderful sentences. "Dogs are genetically hard-wired to please humans. They only do what they are allowed to do." That was such a relief to hear. There are so many pit bulls at the animal shelter, but no one can take them because of all of the restrictions that have been placed on them. I understand most people are afraid of them. However, they are wonderful dogs. If I didn't live in the city limits, I would adopt as many of them as I could afford to feed. Pit bulls are smart and loving. I feel the restrictions amounts to cruelty to animals.
I had lunch with a friend at a Cape Girardeau restaurant and was stunned by what I observed. A group of uniformed law enforcement officers at a table near us were approached by a member of management and asked to either take secure their weapons in their vehicles or leave. The member of management apologized and stated it was the restaurant's policy and referred to a sign posted on the wall that stated concealed firearms are not allowed on property. The officers paid for their drinks and took their business elsewhere. I admire the way the officers handled the situation. What kind of management runs a business this way? I am concerned that we are living in a city where law enforcement officers who are sworn to protect us aren't trusted to carry a firearm into a restaurant while on duty.
FOUAD Ajami of The Wall Street Journal wrote in the Southeast Missourian that President Obama was naive and had a lot to learn about Persian (Iranian) culture. For the record, this is the same Fouad Ajami who wrongly predicted to the White House that after U.S. troops liberated Baghdad, Iraqis would take to the streets and "erupt in joy." I wish The Wall Street Journal and the Southeast Missourian would stop trying to lend credibility to columns written by discredited analysts like Ajami.
IT was a sad week in American celebrity history. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson all passed away. One had the most famous laugh in TV history, another the most stunning hair, and finally, a man who both intrigued and horrified while producing some of the most famous music. Was the world better for what any of the three did? You decide. But they will not be soon forgotten.
Meet me in St. Louis
