THE banks that lobbied the most from 2000 to 2007 had the worst-performing loans and got the biggest bailouts. This should prove to the Americans in denial that our politicians are bought. Medicare isn't bringing down America. It's the banksters and our crooked government that brought down America.
ORWELLIAN-speak has soared to new heights with Rush Limbaugh saying Republican congressman Paul Ryan is trying to save Medicare when he's trying to kill it, and John Boehner saying Medicare played a small role in the special congressional election in New York's 26th District when it was the exclusive issue that doomed the heavily Republican district's candidate to perhaps the biggest political upset in American history.
WITHOUT foreign aid, countries like Pakistan could never scramble F-16s to shoot down our military assets. While 2 percent in foreign aid seems so small compared to our national budget, it's a very deadly one.
I just read the article regarding the workers from Cape and Alliance going to help in Joplin. Bravo to you.
I want to say thank you to the Gordonville Fire Department for coming out to my home when we had the storms and my barn was blown down with the power lines popping and across my drive. Three of the firemen stayed there for over four hours. The firemen were very kind and patient and I want them to know that we really did appreciate them staying there with us.
I am appalled by this generation. I went to a great worship service on Memorial day at the Lutheran Home. The pastor had a great message, but there were no kids there! Don't you care about those who came before you? This country would be nowhere without them. Get off your golf cart, put down your bratwurst and spend time with your parents!
PEOPLE are not stealing copies of the Southeast Missourian for the purpose of cutting out coupons. They are doing so for the purpose of cutting out and later hoping to sell for millions of dollars what will some day be priceless historical artifacts currently known as Speak Out comments.
IF the city of Cape keeps pushing the envelope with Southeast Missouri State University by agreeing with party noise complaints about college-age students and passing draconian city ordinances to lessen the levity at such parties, Southeast Missouri State University will lose its rapid rise through the ranks toward becoming the nation's No. 1 party school.
I enjoy having yard sales, but I do not enjoy people who bring dogs and use my yard as a bathroom break or throw their snack wrappers down. Take your poo and trash with you.
THE detention center is much more than a holding cell. For some children it can mean a new start. Recommendations are given to the parents on what steps they can take to help their child. The center works in conjunction with the parents. It is then up to the parents to follow through with the recommendations. I guess if someone fails at providing for the children the center is a perfect scapegoat.
NOW we have witnessed the Jetton justice. Rod Jetton our former Missouri House speaker, admitted striking a woman in the face and also choking her while having sex with her in her home. Striking and choking her is as close to beating a woman as a man can get. Is that the kind of man we let off for a court cost of $414.50 plus some cash to the victim? Jetton is supposed to be a Republican conservative. How liberal can the law get with him?
THE city passes ordinances and then amends them. None of them work if they're not enforced. We need to clean Cape up and get rid of the horrific buildings downtown.
THIS is in regard to the bugs. You know, I wish the city of Cape would go with their little trucks around the neighborhoods and spray because all the flooding we have had has caused us to have an extreme problem with all the gnats and all the mosquitoes. You can't even sit outside or take a walk and enjoy the fresh air without swallowing a gnat or mosquito. It's really annoying and I would really appreciate it if the city of Cape would go ahead and spray for the gnats and the bugs so you can enjoy it outside. You can't even have a barbecue without swallowing a gnat or bug.
CREATING jobs and trickle-down economics the rich say are the reasons they don't want their taxes raised. Surprise. Most of their trickle-down goes to other countries and not the U.S. We need a flat percentage tax for everyone, no deductions, no loopholes and more oversight, fairness.
WOULD whoever found my black wallet on the parking lot of the North Kingshighway Rhodes 101 Stop please keep the money in it but call the phone number on the check because you have my insurance cards in there and I can't go to the doctor until I get those numbers back.
