Lawsuit commercials

I AM so tired of every other commercial on TV being about how to sue someone for some drug or procedure you had. Don't we have enough problems without adding to them? We have turned into a country that will sue at the drop of a dime for anything.

Save our industry

RUSH LIMBAUGH is so proud of nanotechnology, stating that it is the future of American industry. He declared that steel mills, rubber plants, car factories and all other manufacturing have been outsourced as "old and unnecessary industry." I would gladly trade the useless nanotechnology industry to China for the "old and unnecessary industry."

Atheist religion

SEPARATION OF church and state was created to prevent the government from making one religion the official state religion. Sadly, separation of church and state is being used by atheists to create an official state religion. Yes, atheism is a religion.

Neglected pools

SO CAPAHA Pool is a filthy mess and understaffed, and you think the water park will be different. When Central Pool was installed, it was kept really nice at first. The city soon started neglecting it, and now it's almost as bad as Capaha Pool. How long do you think it will be before the city tires of taking care of its newest had-to-have toy? I give it a couple of years at best. This is the city's pattern not just with pools, but with everything.

Flooded farmland

IF YOU think prices are high now, just wait until the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers floods the area farmland for the sake of a little fish. The environmentalists win round one, but everyone loses in round two as food prices soar.

Working for the people

TO THE police officer saying he is tired of people telling him how to do his job: Get used to it. You are an employee of the citizens. They pay the money. If they want to complain, they can and will. I am a teacher. People in the district pay my salary, and I am always told how to do my job. People question me all the time. It's their school, and they are paying the bills, so it's their right. You don't go to other people's jobs telling them how to do their work because you are not the one paying them. But I bet the person signing the checks tells them what to do and how they should do it. If you don't like being criticized, you picked the wrong line of work.

Much worse

YOU KNOW the saying that things are not as bad as they seem? I'd like to join with Newsweek magazine and many others and state categorically that when it comes to our economy things are much worse than they seem.

Music man

IT'S A shame, but it took Bo Diddley's death to get mainstream culture to admit that he was indeed a founding father of one of the most important societal phenomena of the last half-century or more: the birth of rock and roll.

Hulshof interview

I WAS stunned at how defensive Kenny Hulshof was in his online interview about the Josh Kezer case made available by the Southeast Missourian. Hulshof also seemed angry at times, and getting him to say that he was convinced Kezer killed Mischelle Lawless was like pulling teeth. The person who did the interview did a great job and could not be diverted by Hulshof's continual attempts to change the subject when a sensitive but appropriate question was asked.
