Coach salaries

Do you really want to lower college tuition? One way is to quit paying sports coaches crazy salaries. Example, Clemson just agreed to a 10-year, $92 million contract with its football coach. The kicker is if they fire him in the first 2 years he is guaranteed $52 million. Crazy.

Houck funds

Southeast Missouri State University is looking for revenue sources to pay for stadium upgrades. Here's an idea: win consistently and people will pay to come watch. Until then, you don't need to renovate a stadium that is 75% empty on game days.

Tax overload

I'm tired of bumpy streets, but I'm even more tired of the poor job done by the Cape street department that has led to the mess to begin with. And I'm tired of Cape leaders and the Cape School District spending money like there's no tomorrow and then expecting taxpayers to pass another tax or bond issue. I won't vote for any more funds for either group. Ever!

Recycling

The recent story about recycling missed a major factor in the process. Stuff that isn't recycled goes into the regular trash. Most cities don't have their own landfills. They pay a tipping fee -- dollars per ton to get the landfill to take the trash. Recycle does not go in the landfill, so no tipping fee charge to the city. To calculate the real value of recycle, it's dollars earned plus dollars saved on tipping fees. This is the real figure that should be used in calculating the value of a recycle program. These are real dollars.

Waste drop off

I do hope the Public Works Department will consider improving the yard waste drop off site. A concrete pit would be much easier to dump and clean out for disposal. Currently it is a mess. At the very least, they need more dumpsters or clean them out more often.

Jackson bathroom

You know what you can get for $300,000 -- a much needed bathroom that will last for generations, that is suitable to support crowds of thousands, that meets handicap requirements, that can handle the issues of a building open to the public and looks decent. I know that some would have preferred an outhouse that smells of waste and only cost $2.35, but some of us actually want the city to build things that last and look nice. If you want a second-rate city, then move away.

Seriously?

Can anyone honestly take the Democrats and left wing media seriously anymore? Kavanaugh, Smollett, Covington High Catholic Students, Mueller report. How many times do they have to be proven wrong until absolutely no one will believe them? 2020 - Trump/Pence in a landslide.
