IF SEMO is going to bother spending more money on the turf for the football team, I say go all out and make it black. Then at the very least it would become a draw on ESPN and among fans that just want to say that they have been to all the cool new fields...

Airport workers
WHAT does it take to get a job at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport? We were down there catching a flight to St. Louis and an airport worker had their feet propped up on a desk and was sleeping. Is the city of Cape Girardeau aware of this?
Cape water
THE water in Jackson is disgusting? I've lived in Jackson for more than 35 years and I won't drink Cape Girardeau water out of a faucet or a fountain. It's disgusting in Cape Girardeau. You've got so many chemicals in your water over there, it's not fit to drink. Don't be dissing Jackson if you don't know what you're talking about.
Laminar flow
A previous Speak Out caller said the Diversion Channel land gets flooded almost every year and doesn't seem to be damaged, so what's the big deal about the damage in the Birds Point-New Madrid spillway. The difference is that usually the water on the land in the Diversion Channel area laminar flow, it's nice and smooth. I'm sure there's places where it tumbles over a levee or tumbles out of the hills and goes turbulent. But most of it is laminar flow and nice and smooth. There are areas of private property in the spillway where the water is going turbulent, it's falling over the edge of O'Brien's Ridge, making water falls and tearing up private property.
Thanks for memories
MY teen years were spent with family and friends enjoying the days or nights at the Capaha Pool. I would like to note that our Dr. John T. Crowe was instrumental to having the old pool. Also took a hand in getting the Capaha Park. Thank you for the past memories as time marches on.
Working the system
THE detention center is just a holding cell. They do their best to do whatever is right for these young offenders, but they work the system and the further they go into detention and then jail. Then they just work the system.
Capaha pool
THIS pertains to the pool being demolished, excavated to the tune of $73,000. Remember in the good old days when the Egyptians were building Pyramids by hand and they had hardly any tools, and they were huge? I bet they didn't hire a committee to decide what was done. I'll bet they didn't pay any money, either.

Couponing
SO extreme couponing has become a big deal and everybody loves to get coupons. People have started stealing my newspaper in the morning so they can get the coupons out of the newspaper. People need to take the money that they save from the couponing and buy their own subscription to the Southeast Missourian.
Small government?
THE Republicans and the tea party want smaller government but big money savings for the rich. I say thank you to Big Government for its help to the people of Joplin, Mo., during this disaster. There has to be someone ready to help.
Keeping right
"Keep right except to pass" signs have been removed for political reasons. Those on the left side of the political spectrum objected because they thought the signs conveyed the message that people were supposed to remain conservative until they passed away.
Laura Schaefer
YEARS ago, I had Laura Schaefer as a student. I read where she was recently named co-valedictorian at Notre Dame Regional High School. I am not surprised. Miss Schaefer is an wonderful young lady, whip smart, well-rounded, and will be a sure-fire success in whatever she chooses to do with what will most assuredly be a wonderful life.
Forgiving debt
HOW can President Obama forgive such a large debt to another country when we are facing such economic problems in our own country? Does he have the right to do this? It is wrong. We should take care of our own first. I'll bet the unemployed in this country are real pleased with this. Has any other country helped the U.S. with aid for our flooding problems?
Political issue
REPUBLICAN House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has decided to turn the Joplin tornado in to a political argument about funding. Wow. Eric Cantor and the Republicans have zero issues giving billions to foreign countries, but when it comes to Americans in dire need, they are not worth it.
Update Monopoly
Milton Bradley should update the game of Monopoly to include derivatives and credit default swaps.
