Tea party

It is so encouraging to read multiple reports to the effect that the old-guard Republican establishment is regaining its authority over tea party renegades.

Obesity problem

I work in a school system and I'm calling in regards to the lunches Michelle Obama has put into place for the children to eat to help with their nutrition and obesity. I wonder if she's ever thought about overhauling the food-stamp system, because that's really where the obesity lies because these people are allowed to buy sodas and potato chips and candy and all that on the food stamps. But if they put restrictions on the food stamps program, then she would see obesity go down with these children and with these adults.

Bush, Clinton

President George W. Bush knew there was a chance for terrorism, and then 9-11 happened. And then there was no weapons of mass destruction found. And how many soldiers are dead or crippled because of Bush? So lay off Hillary Clinton regarding Benghazi.

Tax cuts, increase

The Missouri Republican-led House and Senate voted to give the rich an income-tax break. Now they want us poor suckers to approve a sales tax increase. I, for one, am not buying it.

Wages, prices

To all the people that think it's a good thing to have $15 an hour, let me ask you: How many of you are going to buy a Big Mac if it's $10 a Big Mac and $10 for a large one-topping pizza? How many of you are going to pay $20 for the pizza and $10 for the Big Mac?

Stoplights, drivers

Driving to work in the mornings between 7:30 and 8 is a real trip. In both Jackson and Cape, more and more drivers are running lights that have turned red well before they cross their white line.

Democrats?

Is the Democratic Party represented in SEMO? Be nice to know if you have meetings or any plans to elect candidates. Seems like people are reluctant to say they are Democrat in this area.

Obama, Biden

VP Biden visited the St. Louis Arch grounds to promote the success of government investments in communities. How much did his airplane jet fuel to get to St. Louis and back to Washington, D.C. contribute to "climate change"? How much did President Obama's visit to New York City on Monday and back to Washington, D.C., contribute? Perhaps they should do as they say instead of laying all of the blame on citizens.

All in the name

I have a simple solution for school districts plagued with protests against Common Core standards. Keep the same standards but rename them Locally Developed Educational Standards Uniquely Tailored for the Individual Needs of Each and Every Student and Designed to Ensure You that Your Child is Academically Gifted and Worthy of Many Awards.
