Economic fallacy

Mercantilism has proved to be a fallacy time and time again -- leave that 1600s thinking to the 1600s. Somebody's economic success isn't the root of others' failure. The world isn't a zero-sum game. Stop wasting our time complaining about the "income equality" gaps.

Different name

Common Core Curriculum Standards would have never caused controversy if they had been named Tailored to Our Local School District Student Standards.

Remove buildings

The city of Cape is looking at either remodeling or removing buildings that are in disrepair. There's an entire block on South Sprigg and Good Hope that needs to come down. The block is from Sprigg all the way down to Frederick.

Driver danger

I am a resident of Cape Girardeau County. I am on the road daily driving to work, grocery store, gas station, etc. I have lived in many other cities/counties in my 60-some-odd years. I have never seen so many people who do not use their turn signals as in Cape Girardeau County. This is a very dangerous habit. Get off your phones or stop texting! Make driving your priority when you are driving and stop being so inconsiderate of other drivers.

Stop car games

Saturday night, we were stopped at the intersection of K and Siemers near McDonalds and White Castle, waiting for a left turn arrow. To our shock, two small children exited the car to our right and began running around the car playing. The intersection was busy, and the children, approximately 10 in age, were in mortal danger. We pulled forward, honking and yelling desperately at the driver of the car, a woman approximately 30 years old. The woman, presumably the mother, was laughing hysterically at the antics of her children. The light changed, forcing us to pull away, not able to get a license number. I have never witnessed such reckless behavior by a mother. We were stunned at her obvious indifference, and in fact pleasure at her own act of reckless endangerment of children. May God help this woman get caught, administered an evaluation for fitness as a parent, and prevented from ever doing such a thing again.

Policies to stay

Get used to it. Clean energy and Obamacare are here to stay.

Obama, Bush

I keep seeing and hearing comments about our President Obama being, "the worst President ever." Are we really so short of memory to have already forgotten George "Dubbya" Bush -- the man who led us into two unfunded wars and overseer of economic policy that led not just our country, but the world as a whole, to the brink of collapse? President Obama is far from the worst -- don't ever forget that.
