Huge savings

SHOULD WE let illegal immigrants come into our country and stay? Congress seems to think so, as well as get equal rights to that of all American citizens. This being the case, I think we should let all the illegal immigrants into the U.S. who want in. Since they will work hard and for less pay, we could replace every member of Congress, all 535 of them, with illegal immigrants, as well as the president. Think of the savings. The U.S. would be out of debt in just a few years. And the new Congress would actually get something done. Our elected officials can be and may need to be replaced to help open their eyes.

Full coverage

INSTEAD OF taking the meat ax to Medicaid coverage, Missouri legislators should follow the lead of Massachusetts' Republican governor and pass a health-care plan that covers all Missouri citizens.

Political math

A GIRL comes home from college and tells Dad she is a Democrat. He asks what her and her friend Suzy's GPAs are. The girl proudly says she has a 3.5, but Suzy only has a 2.0 because she doesn't go to class or work hard. Her father asks her why she doesn't give Suzy some of her GPA. The girl screams, "No way. I worked hard for my GPA, and it is not fair for Suzy to have a GPA she did not work for." The girl's father proclaims, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Scott City cleanup

LET'S CLEAN up Scott City. It doesn't cost a thing to get out and clean up. Make our town look good. Let's start across the tracks. I drive through there several times a day, and most of the yards look horrible. Get out and clean your yard.

Private and public

THE TRANSIT authority in Cape Girardeau County and other political subdivisions should make it clear to individuals or entities with whom it deals that it is a public body and must keep negotiations transparent. If taxpayers allow local governments and their political subdivisions to continue to conduct themselves like private businesses without the responsibilities of those private businesses, socialism will thrive. If private businesses were relieved of the encumbrances of such things as sales tax, income tax and other innumerable regulations imposed by government, perhaps it could compete with our county government, which seems to be very profitable. Paying a quarter of a million dollars for a study sounds just like government. But applying for loans to buy private businesses was once the purview of American enterprise.

Doing nothing

I BOUGHT one of those Democratic puppies. I had such high hopes, but now it just sits around doing nothing but barking. It eats and sleeps, and I pick up after it. It does no tricks. It won't fetch or play. What a disappointment.
