Missouri controversy? The Missouri Legislature has three bills before it which would, if passed, create a "religious freedom" bill like the one in Indiana. Safe Harbor

Scintillating

The Southeast Missourian's Samantha Rinehart's writing is scintillating and, frankly, magnificent.

Cop texting

Yes, I just came through the intersection of Mount Auburn and Kingshighway. And there was a police vehicle, and the police officer was texting while driving. He was in the left-hand lane, turning left onto Mount Auburn, and, sure enough, he was looking down at his phone, texting, not paying attention to his driving. How can the general public be expected to obey the rules, when the police officers won't?

Burned

Once again I am coming home from work to the smell of smoke, and it is after 5 o'clock. Why is it that people that are still burning and have smoldering leaf piles at this time of the evening? I had to shut my windows due to my asthmatic condition because of the smoke filling my home. If people are able to burn in the city, which is a mistake to begin with, the law should be enforced that it is supposed to end by 4 o'clock. What are we to do when we can't even breathe sitting in our own homes with our windows open in the spring and fall due to all this burning? Please, city council, consider all of us who have health and breathing issues, who can't even enjoy the nice weather.
