THE RIGHT turn signal at Siemers Drive and Route K is pointless. Go to any metro area and you'll never see right-turn-only signals at an intersection like that. If you remember, that turn was a yield first, and then we had to stop. And there seem to be no sensors on all of those new traffic lights on Mount Auburn Road and Siemers Drive. People who don't stop are just fed up with the way Cape Girardeau has designed its roads. I would rather watch people prudently run a stoplight than watch people drive across the solid yellow line around blind corners.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI State University is getting what it deserves for scamming voters on the River Campus. Unfortunately, the punishment will fall on the shoulders of parents and students trying to pay for it all.
THIS IS for the person who wrote that a DUI destroys a person's life for years to come. Have you lost someone to a drunken driver or had a family member disabled by a drunk? Anyone stupid enough to drive drunk gets what's coming to him. The person who has been changed forever is the one disabled or the family that lost a loved one to a drunken driver.
I WOULD never agree to give up my home for a lake. We have worked long and hard to make this place our own, and we have sacrificed a lot to do so. We do not agree that it is selfishness to want to keep it. My first priority is my home and my family -- not someone else's enjoyment. If you want to go to a lake, there are many already around here, all sizes. Just go there and leave me alone.
IF YOU live in the Olive or Pine area in Scott City, please call the police if you see dogs running loose, and file a formal complaint if one comes at you and growls. Somebody's child is going to get seriously hurt or killed if something is not done about those dogs. They are vicious. If we all team together and contact the police and attend the council meetings, maybe we can make a change to protect our children.
I believe anyone who drinks alcohol should have to do it with a fish bowl on his head. Trust me, most drinkers would still do it anyway.
I am disturbed that the Central High School graduate who is in Denmark and witnessed a riot described it, in his words: "Just to be considered a rioter and potentially arrested was the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever experienced." He makes it sound as if it were something pleasurable.
Speeding is a crime. This means that anyone who speeds is a criminal. But those speeders are the first ones who will look down their noses at someone else for committing a crime. Between 5:30 and 8 a.m., people coming from Highway 34-72 to Interstate 55 think 55 mph is the minimum everyone should drive, even after road crews are on the job. If you don't drive at least 55 mph these criminals will ride so close to your bumper that you barely see their grill. The cops need to do something now and get this under control before someone higher up is contacted about the lack of ability for the local public servants to do their job.
It is strange that doctors advertise they are taking new patients, but the first thing they ask is either how old you are or what type of insurance you have. As soon as this is answered they say, "Sorry, the doctor isn't taking any new patients." Which is it? No new patients, or no patients on Medicare?
I want to thank Scott City's finest on a job well-done. After a long night of stuffing wedding envelopes at my soon to be mother-in-law's house, I was a threat to myself and everyone else. Speeding along at 2 mph over the posted speed limit, I was a hazard to humanity. It is with great pleasure I hand over my hard-earned $125. Maybe with the additional cash flow, you can find a way to improve the looks of your dying little town.
President Bush says he wants the truth to come out about the U.S. attorneys, but he throws up roadblocks at every turn. He says no one was involved in the White House but refuses to let Karl Rove or any of the others testify under oath. We know how that goes from the last Congress that let everyone from oil people to Justice Department people "interview" with certain congressional peoples. We have a right to know the truth -- under oath, with transcript and with penalties for lying, covering up or refusing to testify. It's time for all of Congress to come clean, vote for openness and quit covering for the president and his henchmen. If no one is above the law, let's prove it.
When someone takes the Fifth, he usually has something to hide. When a Justice Department person takes the Fifth, we then need to really take a look. Why would an officer of the court take the Fifth, if there was nothing to hide or to try to impede the Congress from going forth?
If the president keeps apologizing for the many mistakes made by his administration, he may regain some of the political capital he has squandered.
I was at the Cape Girardeau Public Library to use the computer. A woman told me I had to pay $30 for some books my children checked out and never brought back before I could continue using the computer. Or bring back the books. I opted to pay the $30. Two hours later, the woman "let me know" about the policy that no one may be on the computer more than two hours. I said, "Thank you for letting me know." Five minutes later I was told the policy would be enforced and that I was to get off of the computer immediately. Here is the problem. I was the only one at the computer station. There were three other computers open. If someone was waiting for my computer, I would have no problem with this policy. My tax dollars are paying for a library I can't use freely without being asked to stop. The library needs to realize its purpose before it expands. All we will end up with is a larger library with a two-hour policy. Good job, voters.
I am appalled to learn that I couldn't get a flight into Cape Girardeau. I am also appalled the new carrier will fly to and from Cincinnati. Are you people from the Stone Age? Delta is notorious for the "doesn't ever leave the airport" status.
I attended the musical at Egyptian High School. The performance was excellent. It makes one proud to be a graduate of this fine school. The students and teachers should be applauded. Many hours of hard work went into this production. I am glad I had the opportunity to attend.
