Terrorism

Republicans say we have had more terrorist activity since Obama has been President and hardly any when Bush was President. The simplest reason is Bush had gone to war with Iraq and that has caused more hatred against America. He started that war on a bunch of lies that he and Cheney made up. There were no weapons of mass destruction as they claimed. Also all the attacks that have happened are from within American and not from outside as the Republicans claimed.

Puppy mills

How shameful. The Humane Society of the United States' recent study revealed that most of what it deems the dirtiest dozen puppy mills in Missouri maintain a federal and state license.

Margaret Thatcher

It's hard to understand why conservatives heap praise on Margaret Thatcher. Under her leadership, the deficit as a percentage of GDP increased over 600 percent, exporting industries were virtually destroyed, Germany replaced Britain as Europe's top economy, and so on. I guess conservatives are blinded because she was buddies with Ronald Reagan.

Fattest states

The Show Me State strikes again. Relatively quickly, Missouri has moved into the top tier of fattest states.

Wrong word

To the young women who were at the carwash and calling it a "sexy carwash," I think they meant, "trashy carwash."

Flag design

James Baughn, thank you. I was wondering what the other flag design looked like. I loved Mrs. Oliver's design but was curious about the other design.

Allenville bridge

I'm down here taking some last pictures of the Allenville railroad bridge. I've taken many trips across that bridge on trains and yet the only thing I can think of are the people who owned it and did absolutely nothing to preserve it.

Not normal

I'm getting very tired about hearing quotations about serial killers being described as normal. The talking heads love talking to neighbors and family members saying how nice a suspected serial killer is. The bombing suspect was called a normal American young man by a neighbor, but when he described the suspect's actions there was nothing normal about him.

Standstill

I want to know why the city allows people to block the thoroughfare in front of Alma Schrader school twice a day, every day. It comes to a complete standstill, and people use that street to go to work and someone is parked in the middle of it waiting for their child. I understand you have to get your child, but don't park in the middle of the street.

Obit judgment

I have to say I'm disappointed in the paper's coverage of a foreigner who passed away in another country made the front page but a beloved American icon who has been with us since the 1950s and was admired just got a little blurb on the back page. I don't understand.

Cape revenue

I'm calling about the front page article about Casino revenue going up. That's good for the city, but they seem to want to spend the money on ridiculous jobs rather than on what needs to be done. I think it's sad that there was an increase and they still can't pay for fireworks. That makes me ashamed to live here. Cape Girardeau city is totally unpatriotic. That is pathetic.

Nixon attacks

I am tired of the attack on Jay Nixon. I think it's wrong when someone from Alabama tells us Missourians what to be for and what not to be for.

Use crosswalks

I am a resident of Cape Girardeau. I passed through a crosswalk by Central Junior High and the students don't use the crosswalk. A student ran in front of me who wasn't using the crosswalk. Kids need to be educated to use crosswalks so they don't get killed needlessly. Thank you.

Mental control

I would just like to comment after the terrible tragedy in Boston. We're worried about gun control, but how are we going to control bombs? Guns and bombs don't kill people, people kill people. What are they going to do when a person's mind is all cloudy and messed up? We're not looking at guns and bombs, but people with mental illnesses.

No choice

I am so sick and tired of the city council and manager saying the voters approved a rate increase for sewer and water. We were blackmailed into approving it. We were told if we didn't approve it, it would be higher and the rate increase would go into effect two years before it did.

Has its thorns

Get that silly comic "Rose is Rose" out of the paper. It is so goofy.
