JACKSON has the best recycling center. It is clean and easy to separate plastics. Also it is easy to find and it is not out of the way.

Trump campaign

I may be wrong, but I think Gary Busey's endorsement of Donald Trump will put Trump over the top and secure for him the Republican presidential nomination.

Checks and balances

I think instead of publishing stories about how Obama is spending all this money, we should cover the fact that no adult remembers how their government works. The president can not spend money unless Congress allows it. All bills that spend money come through Congress. Even if the president vetoes them they can still pass it with a two-thirds majority.

Supporting troops

I would like to thank every single soldier for my freedom. As to the comment made recently in Speak Out about a recruiter not seeing any action, my husband is a full-time recruiter for the Army National Guard in Cape Girardeau and is currently deployed. Our family appreciates all of your support.

Debt plan

IN order to deal with the debt and deficit, Americans strongly favor two things Republicans don't. 1) Raise taxes on the very wealthy. 2) Don't mess with the safety net (i.e., Medicare and Medicaid). The GOP wants to keep the tax rates at the lowest level they've been in the past 50 years and scuttle the safety net, reducing seniors to homelessness, begging on the streets for food, and being unable to get even the most minimal health care.

Abolition of chairs

WHETHER you exercise or not, a study has concluded that sitting can be a "lethal activity." That study has led me to call for the abolition of all chairs.

Reagan's fault

NONE of these problems with the air traffic controllers would be happening if all air traffic controllers hadn't been fired decades ago by President Reagan.

Buy them shoes

I'M a teacher, and thanks to Speak Out I have been alerted to a horrible problem that is plaguing our schools. However, I have been on the lookout for these flip-flop wearing teachers, and I have not been able to locate any. I think it's time that this person who keeps contacting Speak Out regarding the dangers of flip flops confront the offending teacher and offer to buy him or her a pair of shoes.

Caving in

IT sickens me to think that local public schools are apparently caving in to the prurient interests of bored bureaucrats in Jefferson City by allowing them to strip power from local administrators so that they can drive or maybe fly around the state at taxpayers' expense, investigating sex abuse allegations in schools.

Road problem

CLOSING Highway O in Cape Girardeau County has forced a lot of people to drive on County Road 380 in Cape Girardeau County and Bollinger County Road 456. These are the roughest roads around. I wish the counties would keep these roads graded until the new bridge is opened again.

Picking up trash

I guess the Southeast baseball games were too intense last weekend for fans to pick up their trash in the park. Capaha Park is a place for everyone to enjoy, and it is also filled with trash cans. I was very disappointed to see litter everywhere around the baseball field Monday morning. I took time to pick it up, and don't see why the fans couldn't do the same. Please respect our park and make Cape Girardeau look classy, not trashy.
