Speedway highway

I WAS driving on Highway 72 past Pioneer Orchard coming into Jackson. Cars were passing me, I'm doing 40 mph like the speed limit says. The other cars must be doing 55 or 60 mph. It looks like the Indianapolis Speedway. I can't believe the police won't patrol that stretch of highway and stop these motorists from speeding like that. Something needs to be done.

The real point

REGARDING THE wearing of a prom dress to church: I think it's beautiful. God doesn't care much for those who are trying to find something wrong with everything. As far as something taking away from the focus of the message, I think someone has missed the real point.

Socialized hospital

NO GOVERNMENT hospital for me. No candidate can support true socialized medicine because the Communist Party does not have a candidate on the ballot. Not long ago, people were horrified by the Walter Reed VA Hospital debacle. A VA hospital is true socialized medicine: by government and controlled by government. It is not the government's responsibility to pay for your food, health care, retirement and education. It is yours. That is something too hard to swallow for many, I guess.

Police stops

I LIVE in Chaffee and work night shifts in Cape Girardeau. Four times I have been stopped by Chaffee police on my way home for silly reasons. Once the officer, before he asked anything else, asked how much I had to drink. Several of my friends have been stopped at night for other bogus reasons. What is going on?

Limbaugh's attacks

DAVID LIMBAUGH has stretched credulity beyond any reasonable limit. The mainstream media (ABC) did just what Limbaugh and company wanted by asking Barack Obama about the wrongs of Pastor Wright, Obama's associations and other such things. As a result, ABC was justifiably deluged with criticism from the American people, complaining that they were interested in hearing about where the candidates stand on the issues and not all this extraneous stuff. And what does Limbaugh do? Stick to his continual claims of consistency by blasting the American people for their collective stupidity in not being interested in reactions to the very questions he wanted raised? No. He attacks the mainstream media. Explain that one.

County paving

THE LATEST problem with the Cape Girardeau County Road Advisory Board is another reason it should be disbanded. Who runs the county? The commissioners? Or this advisory board? It is wasting county money by installing inferior chip and seal on county roads instead of spending it on good asphalt paving.

Removing garbage

WHAT A pity that the city of Cape Girardeau feels the flooding deluge is not its responsibility. The people who are affected by their water-ruined belongings not being removed should band together and see if cracked pipes perhaps caused their basements and houses to flood. What has Cape done to prevent this flooding? How is the tax money being spent and where? I see this as no difference from the landscape debris that happened here in Florida. There was not a problem of having it picked up and hauled away. Landscape materials and recycled materials are picked up once a week in Palm County, Fla. Regular garbage is picked up twice a week. Shame on Cape Girardeau, because I know the cost of garbage removal is not inexpensive.
