I recommend that all that call themselves Christians read I Corinthians 6 before they complain about someone at church.
THE performance by the Southeast Missouri State University Orchestra and Choir of Haydn's "Nelson" Mass was incredible, and very fitting with the approach of Easter. Perhaps next year we may enjoy Mozart's Requiem Mass. Thank you for such a wonderful performance.
IN the not-too-distant future, it will be forbidden in this country for anyone publicly to judge an action or behavior to be moral, amoral or immoral. The only standard allowed for judging an action or behavior will be whether it is legal or illegal. It will be interesting to see what affect this will have on society and our nation.
MICHAEL Jensen recently asked if he was wrong to imply that Congress has more important things to do than modify the Bowl Championship Series formula for determining the Division I football championship. In a word, yes. The only other thing Congress should do is the less difficult task of rubber stamping the Obama administration's well-thought-out solutions to our nation's problems.
THE first thing people say when I tell them I am a plumber is "Ewww, that's nasty" or "I could never do anything that gross." Yet when I unstop their sewer at 3 in the morning so they have a clean and sanitary home, the first thing they ask is how much it costs. How much would you charge to stick your face and hands in my toilet? Next time your plumber comes to the door, thank him for what he does and don't gripe to him about the prices he more than likely has no control over.
REGARDING the wreck that involved a Nell Holcomb school bus: I have lived on Highway 177 for 20 years and can't count all the times I have been passed on curves or passed when cars were approaching in the other lane. We need law enforcement on Highway 177 to ticket all those drivers who think the speed limit does not apply to them. This is a wake-up call for the sheriff's department.
THE upcoming tea party has been a little misunderstood. Yes, the Boston Tea Party concept is a consideration, but this year the word "tea" stands for Taxed Enough Already. A Speak Out comment stated, "The goal of the protests is to show the government that there is strength in numbers, and the number of us that are fed up with their performance is growing." That statement should be read by more of the public than just those who read the paper online.
