SO SOMEONE wants to shoot all the deer in the city limits. What a great idea. Why not have a barbecue for the hungry? Next, maybe we could shoot all the squirrels. They get in my garden and flowers. And those pesky robins, too. It would be great sport to hunt and kill all the cats and dogs in the city limits. They also irritate me. Maybe we could give a trophy or award to the best hunters in the city limits. What stupidity. Wake up, Cape Girardeau.
I BELIEVE the program to allow families of drunken drivers victims to purchase signs to memorialize their family members is a fantastic idea, but I believe the drunken driver or his family should pay for them.
WITH ALL the up-to-date weather forecasting equipment and the knowledgeable forecasters, schools should know and inform the public the night before of school closings. It would be good for bus drivers, day cares, babysitters and parents who need time to adjust schedules before the last minute in the morning.
REGARDING THE comments state Rep. Rod Jetton made about the way Missourians work: I have worked hard for the last 30 years and was offended by what he said.
I'M TIRED of hearing people whine about the price of gasoline. Every time you get on the highway people run over you even if you do the speed limit. It's pretty apparent people don't care about the price of gas or they would slow down to the speed limit. Gas is $3 a gallon, and some say it will go to $4. Let's help ourselves. Drive more slowly.
A BIG thank you to the men who pushed me out of the snow near Dollar General on Kingshighway. I didn't get a chance to thank you or offer anything for your help, but it truly was appreciated. The world needs more good people like you. Thanks again.
REGARDING THE need for inspectors in the county: I believe it is a good idea. When home buyers buy their dream home, they won't have to worry about problems.
FOR THOSE that are going to be voting in the next presidential election, please read Matthew 24:4 and 24. Think about what it says before you vote.
I THINK it's time to get a dress code for Cape Girardeau's public schools. Most students dress distastefully. Girls have clothes tight enough you don't need an imagination. The boys have pants big enough that the crotch comes down to their knees, looking like a 2-year-old with a filled diaper. Then there are tennis shoes not laced up properly, flip-flops and so forth. I think the new superintendent, school board, teachers and parents could come up with an appropriate dress code. Let's take pride in ourselves.
WHEN THE land developers are finished putting up all the subdivisions, there will not be any wooded areas left in Cape Girardeau for the deer to be in. So we won't have the problem with deer anymore after that.
REGARDING THE free school lunch program: Do you know the government guidelines to qualify for free or reduced lunches? For a family of two (parent and a child} you'd have to make $470 or less a week. That is around $11.75 an hour. With gasoline and grocery prices soaring, what do you expect the public to do?
