** Thank you

My comment is about the snowstorm and the bitter cold temperatures. The Chaffee Nutrition Center was unable to deliver meals to the elderly and disabled last week due to this. And during this time, the Chaffee Nursing Home prepared meals and delivered them to us. And I just wanted to say a great big thank you to them. This was quite a blessing for all of us. Thank you very much.

** Obama's patriotism

Well, somebody has come out and said they don't believe you, Mr. President. They don't believe you love our country. I've said that all along. And if you do, if it's not true that you don't love it, but if it's true that you do love it, let's hear from you about it. Tell us that. No, you haven't got the guts to.

** Global warming

In defense of Al Gore to the Speak Out caller, global warming does not mean everything's going to get warm. It means we are going to have more severe weather and more drastic weather change. So people need to get their information correct before they make these statements.

** Road repair

I'm reading today's paper about the streets and the need for repairs and such. One of the first things the city could do that would cost very little is, when they repair a place, do a better job of it. They don't pack the asphalt down, when they're using asphalt to patch a hole or whatever. They'll leave a hump. And then, as it packs down, it'll leave another indentation. It's just poor workmanship. It's poor supervision.

** Obama, Clinton, Bush

I was just reading the Speak Out in Monday, Feb. 23's paper. And I think that the articles titled "President Obama," "Hillary Clinton" and "Jeb Bush" are actually written by the same person. And I think this person should look around and see what a mess these people have left our world in.

** Crader's critique

Rachel Crader's spot-on critique of SEMO women's basketball team, Coach Margenthaler, is illustrative not only of Crader's sports acumen but may also provide insight as to the hard-working but beleaguered coach.

** Veteran support

This country sends its young men and women off to war. They come back with missing arms or legs or any other injury that they have to live with the rest of their lives. This country owes them whatever they need, until the injury is gone. They should never, never have to depend on charity.

** Train tracks

Back in December, I believe, there was a call to Speak Out about the railroad intersection in Jackson that the tracks were going to be fixed by MoDOT in January. Well, this is March, and, guess what, nothing has been done. It's worse now, probably, than it ever has been. The people that own the train and MoDOT need to get together. This is simply not right for the town. Get that thing fixed for good.

** Generosity thanks

We were eating at a restaurant the other night. We were waiting for our check, and the waiter said, "Your dinner has been paid for." We were very surprised, and we didn't know the people. But we would like to thank them and let them know how much we appreciated what they did. There are angels on earth.
