Media coverage about poverty in America is said to make up about 1 percent of content. A recent series in the Springfield News Leader focused on stark poverty in the Missouri Ozarks. The argument against calling attention to such conditions is we can continue to pretend this national disgrace is nonexistent.
Thanks to the city workers who picked up our limbs after the recent ice storm. We appreciate their service and they did a great job.
I am proud of Rand Paul for standing up and doing a filibuster all by himself. He is a good young man with good ideas and he's right, the U.S. military should not have drone strikes against citizens on its soil.
Now that our town has a place for us to gamble, Southeast Missouri State University is going to have a class to teach gambling. I couldn't believe it. Why not teach how to drink alcohol? I'm disappointed in the college.
I would like to ask the voters to vote correctly and leave the deer alone in the community. Wildlife contributes to the quality of the community, and hunters lurking about four months of the year will not make it a desirable place to live. Bowhunting is inefficient and cruel. About 50 percent of the deer wounded are never retrieved and die slow agonizing deaths. That's unacceptable. Please vote to repeal the ordinance and allow the deer to live with us in harmony.
