SINGLE, middle-aged (+50), Caucasian males -- OWGs (Old White Guys) -- are being discriminated against in the workforce. Many are not hired, and those that are hired are often laid off early in this county. Employers don't want to or can't afford our health insurance premiums, nor can we making peanut wages with temporary or part-time work...
Employment issues

Homeless shelter
WHY don't they use the old welfare office on Frederick Street for a homeless shelter? It's just sitting there empty. It's a good building.
Mayer's column
I was really motivated by state Sen. Rob Mayer's clarion call to make Missouri a right-to-work state. As a result, I am immediately starting an effort I hope will result in Mayer's recall.
Prop B
IT'S a sad commentary on the Missouri Republican-controlled General Assembly taking steps to override the will of the people as expressed in their approval of Proposition B. I guess they think we ordinary voters are dumb.

Dress code
A dress code for school is a good idea. Scott City is on the right track. As far as a dress code for teachers, I don't feel teachers should be treated the same as students. Is the manager at a restaurant treated the same as a server, busboy or hostess?
Drive-thrus
I believe a ban on fast-food drive-thrus would serve three purposes: Cut down on roadside litter, curb driver distraction and lower obesity numbers. I could get used to this fascism trend.
Miss Kitty
JOE Sullivan, I am just devastated and hope Miss Kitty rests in peace. God bless her and God bless you and your lovely wife. It's going to be sad not getting to read about Miss Kitty. That was the highlight of my Fridays.
Scott Walker
WE have a new presidential candidate for the Republican party -- Scott Walker from Wisconsin. He says and does what he says he's going to do.
