Cost of education

I saw in the paper that the governor was asking that cuts be restored to the University of Missouri system and that even more money be spent. Education has become a black hole that continually swallows up copious amounts of our hard-earned dollars. When I was a student at Southeast Missouri State University back in the mid-1960s, the tuition was $80 per semester, and that included text book rental. For that tuition I could carry 15 hours or more. Today 15 credit hours cost almost $3,500. That's about 44 times what I paid in the mid-1960s. What else do you know that has gone up that much since the 1960s? For example, gasoline was 35 cents per gallon when I was a university student. If it had gone up 44 times, we would now be paying $15.40 per gallon! And what do we get for this increase? A politically correct version of history is taught that turns our children and grandchildren into Bernie Sanders supporters.

Debt reduction

In terms of the relation of federal debt to GDP, Bill Clinton clobbers the competition. It is amazing when it comes to the degree he was able to reduce it. Ronald Reagan was among the worst, having cut taxes while not reining in spending. Going back a while, Harry S. Truman did a great job as well. It's embarrassing when the usually inerrant Speak Out forum is debased with comments illustrating that a commentator has no clue as to the difference between the deficit and the debt.

Confronting the truth

I was outraged by a statement of former NBA star Charles Brarkley. Barkley bellowed in effect that poor people are too dumb to realize they're mere pawns in a political chess game. Having said that, I am generally outraged when forced to confront the truth.

Circadian rhythms

This may sound radical, but it's true. It is a scientific fact that people are more vulnerable to strokes and heart attacks when their circadian rhythms are disrupted, particularly during the switch from Central Standard Time to daylight saving time. Thus, if our legislators don't address this as soon as possible, there is no other conclusion to draw other than they have gone beyond death panels and are intentionally killing us off in droves.

Not a governor

They keep referring to "Gov. Palin." She is not a governor and never even finished a term as one. She is a has-been and a nobody. This is why our country is in such a mess, as our news is all lies. Most Republican legislators fit this category also.

God's birth control

Being gay or straight is not a choice. You are what God wants you to be. And gay is God's form of birth control for his creation of earth. The more his straight children overpopulate the planet, he will create more gay children. This is a truth your hateful minds cannot process. God loves all his children.

Greatest Generation

My self-esteem just skyrocketed. I realized that I am a member of what Tom Brokaw designated and what has generally come to be accepted as the Greatest Generation.

Amazed

I'm amazed that I'm amazed. Don't you just love Hillary Clinton's TV ad where she reads off a massive price increase on a drug and exclaims predatory pricing and she'll take care of that? I'm 65 with health issues and couldn't agree more about the horrors of costs in the medical and drug world. I'm furious! However, she promises future action on this. This begs the question, Hillary and Bill, where have you been on this issue and ripoff decades before now while in the highest of government positions?

Ballot choices

Please answer me why, if the candidate has dropped out already, are they still on the ballot? And I only notice this on the Republican ballot. The Democrats had their big two, Bernie and Hillary. But, with the exception of Ben Carson, who just dropped out recently, there were Rand Paul, Jeb Bush and a few others who know they don't have a snowball's chance. I believe it's a disservice to the people for such to happen.

Enough delegates

With apologies to the self-described Christian conservatives, even Donald Trump's primary loss in Ohio will not stop him from having more than enough delegates to secure the Republican presidential nomination.
