Recently I wrote my senators asking them to support a bill that would protect wildlife, protect animals from being indiscriminately hunted. And the Republican senator, Blunt, responded with his announcement that he is a firm believer in gun ownership and sportsmen and yadda, yadda, yadda. And so, I wasn't surprised. But I also got the same story from Claire McCaskill. Are they giving us nobody to choose from? Are both these parties in the pockets of the National Rifle Association? I draw their attention to the Southeast Missourian here on Tuesday, an article from The Associated Press that says gun ownership is at a record low. Now it's down to 32 percent. Hunting is losing popularity, and most people don't live in a house with a gun. Most of us don't want to. And in case you're wondering, I'm a Republican, but I disagree with them on that.
I had to smile when I read the article from a "highly regarded source" that gun ownership in America is down "lower than it has ever been." This after a decade of ever-increasing gun sales in the U.S.? Would you tell anyone about your gun ownership and your conceal carry permit to protect yourself? Yeah, right.
