Disagree with Lyons

I feel Gene Lyons is wrong. I don't think Romney feels that he is entitled to be president. I don't know why anyone would want to be president when you go out much older than when you came in. I think Romney sees this as a service opportunity, and he is willing to do that. Whether he wins against Obama is yet to be seen, but I don't think Lyons should be so caustic.

Texting and driving

TO the young brunette woman driving a silver sedan heading North on Mount Auburn Road across Independence Street recently: Please stop texting and driving. I watched you text starting before the stoplight almost to Hopper Road. Please, before you kill yourself or injure someone else, stop texting and driving.

Deer dilemma

THIS is about the deer dilemma. If my family is injured by controlling the deer or if I am, I will get the best lawyer in St. Louis and sue Cape Girardeau. So taxpayers, be ready to shell out money.

Football field

IF Central High School is low on money for education, then why do they have the big football field? I guess they could afford that.

Rush and the hall

PUT Rush Limbaugh in the hall of shame instead. Just because he has a known name does not mean he deserves this honor. He dishonors Missouri, and I am ashamed he is a former Missourian.

Limbaugh bias

RUSH Limbaugh's vulgar comments about the female law student show his bias against women. For years he has raged against smart women callings us femi-Nazis. He is the one who is acting like an ignorant bigot. Contraception is the right of men and women. Birth control pills protect women against many medical problems, like polycystic ovary disease. I had to have surgery for this disease, and it was painful. Contraception saves lives of women and it prevents abortion. I am a Catholic who has used the pill since 1968 until the end of my childbearing years. It's time for Rush Limbaugh to think nicely about women.

Miller bias

THIS is in regard to Bob Miller's editorial on March 7. I am looking for the corresponding editorial that should have been with it and I can't seem to find it in your paper or in your archives. I wonder if Mr. Miller could tell me please when he did the editorial about the lady comedian who was speaking at a dinner with Obama and how funny Obama thought it was when this lady wished that Rush Limbaugh would get kidney disease and die. I can't seem to find that article, so could Mr. Miller let the reading audience know where we can find that article and all the complaints and all the criticism from Obama and everybody else, because this comedian wished Rush would die.

Reasonable editor

BOB Miller has shown us a profile of courage and of reason.

Park suggestion

I think Cape Girardeau has some of the most beautiful parks and shelters for the public, but I do feel like it's time they built bathrooms for the public and for visitors to come to use instead of a Porta-Potty. It's time to get modern.

Wrong method

OUR friend Rush Limbaugh showed his bitterness to his political enemies last week. That was a mistake. He knows it, and he apologized. Rush is correct that we need to bring our country back to obeying the Constitution and having a balanced budget. But his method is wrong. We need to go back to God. We need to love our enemies and try to convince them that it is best to obey the Constitution and balance the budget and come back to God.

Hall company

PLEASE tell me how Rush Limbaugh can honestly be inducted into the hall of fame along side of famous people like President Harry Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, George Washington Carver, Stan Musial and others. He has never contributed anything positive to this world, just spreading hatred. I think it is a disgrace.

The Limbaugh name

BOB Miller, you hit the subject right on the head with Limbaugh's rhetoric. I've known that family for years and they've been highly respected in this city, but this Rush has undone all of them. I've been ashamed of him for 25 years, and you were exactly right. I don't think he cares a hoot as long as he is making the great big bucks. I am just sorry that people will still listen to him.

Warner speech

MY family and I attended Kurt Warner's presentation at the Show Me Center on Feb. 29, and I have to say it was one of the best presentations that I have seen. Kurt Warner is just a good person and what a great mentor for the families of Cape Girardeau and the students of Southeast to be able to hear and listen to. He's just a hardworking, goal-setting, honest person who also takes in his spirituality and thanks God for the many blessings he has and has received. Kudos to Southeast students for funding a program like that with their student fees. It was worthwhile.

Point of no return

WE aren't moving nearly fast enough on global warming. The point of no return may be fast approaching. There were Easter flowers blooming in February.

Motor efficiency

WE need to buy electric cars. The internal combustion engine is only 14 percent efficient. Electric motors are 97 percent efficient.

Chinese contractors

I was just wondering if anybody else heard the story about the Chinese contractors getting contracts to rebuild roads and bridges in New York and California and Alaska. Diane Sawyer from ABC carried the story the other day and I am surprised there hasn't been some kind of reaction to it, especially from the Republicans, because this is not the way Obama is supposed to create jobs. He should be creating them for American workers, not Chinese workers.

Caring for dogs

DOGS, as everyone should know, are social animals. They want to be a part of the person or family who got them. Why then do some people keep a dog on a chain or in the backyard and never interact with it except to feed it? Day after day, it is the same to the dog. No one plays with it, visits it or wants it. If you have a dog and this describes your dog's life, why don't you do the dog a favor and find it a home where it will be loved and cared for properly? And the next time you think about getting a dog, don't.

Single mom

IN reference to the gas prices and everything else, I don't even know where the middle class is anymore. I make $25,000 a year, and that sounds like a lot, but it's not when you're a single mom with a teenage son. I don't know where we are going to go. Right now I am thankful that my car is still running, I can buy gas and I have food and a roof over my head. I don't know who is looking out for us, but it sure isn't our government. It sure isn't our leaders. There is only one person I can think of, and that is God who keeps us going from one day to the other, because all these other people are just out for themselves. They stand and they talk the big talk, but they don't even know we exist.

Coach Garner

MARTY, thank you so much for the update on coach Garner and his success now at his new university. It's too bad Southeast Missouri State University let him go. He not only was a great coach, but a great person.

Big Government?

REPUBLICANS most frequent argument against the Democrats is that Big Government is trying to rule our lives and force us to do certain things. Now they're trying to pass laws that would force women to have internal ultrasounds of their wombs and listen to the heartbeat before they are able to have an abortion. Is this Big Government or what?

Repressive regime

THE U.S. government is a repressive regime. It has got a big hammer.

Government housing

INSTEAD of the government buying up these houses for people to live in, they need to live in the inner cities, put up apartment buildings. They can't live in houses anyway because gas is going up, and they can't afford transportation. They might have to take public transportation. That is the best thing to do.

Water in hell

ALL the money in the world won't buy you a big ice water in hell.

Deer, windshield

A caller recently asked if I had ever looked a deer in the face. Well, yes, I have, and it wasn't pretty, mostly because it was in my windshield.
