Flag desecration

Sadly, a Cape Girardeau police officer has to in large part pay the price for the political posturing of the Missouri General Assembly's passage of a flag desecration law in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution.

President's idea

After all these months that our president has derided the Republicans about the sequester and what a bad idea it is, the White House is now admitting that it was the president's bad idea. Wouldn't it have been better just to tell the truth?

Deer report

Give us a clearer picture about the report on the deer count in Cape. With the next run of the report can the Missourian also show readers a map of where the count was taken with information of the numbers in each area and if it is wooded, city limit markings and how long the area has been populated by homes?

Racial divide

I read in the paper where Biden was participating in the anniversary march of equal rights of voting and was the first person in his rank to ever do so. It is fine to remember history but to have a march every year to remind everyone is like saying we will never forget how we were unfairly treated. When does the racial divide end? I don't think that some people want it to end because that is what gives them power. How sad.

Obama comment

I read in last Sunday's paper a comment from Michelle Obama stating that she knew she would get some negative feedback from her Oscar appearance. But a comment she made that really stood out was that they are being more scrutinized because of being the first black family in the White House. I would beg to differ with her on that. Just who scrutinizes them? Not any of the liberal media, as they give them a pass on everything. Michelle, could you give us an example? Just who is still bringing race into the picture? Yep, Michelle and her hubby.

Chamber, Medicaid

Even the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce is not so blinded by antipathy toward the president to oppose Medicaid expansion in Missouri.

Austerity budget

Wow. The Democrats must be ecstatic. Just as the pain of the sequester starts kicking in later this year, the Republicans are apparently going to be poised to submit an austerity budget that would make Herbert Hoover grimace.

Taxes, security

By voting for the sequester and refusing to take reasonable steps to avoid it, Republicans have made it quite apparent that they place a higher priority on cutting taxes than national security.

Happy days

The Dow reached a record high. The federal deficit has been consistently falling. Happy days are here again.
