THE LAST time we had a good Speak Out argument going was about how to change the school boundaries. This time the good argument is about whether the president is a pervert. I don't know if he's a pervert or not. I've never seen him in action. But we all know he's a liar. The interesting thing is how many of his friends have to lie in order to prove that he's not a pervert.
WELL, FINALLY Mr. Clinton was fined $90,000 for lying in court. Most would have gotten some jail time. The White House lawyers said it will be paid by the Clinton Defense Fund, a fund contributed to by supporters who supported a lying pervert. I think it's great. People with no moral character supporting a person with no moral character.
JUDGE WRIGHT fined Clinton $90,000 for lying under oath. If Bill, Hillary and their friends had to come up with $90,000 for every lie they told, we could pay off the national debt.
CAN SOMEONE please tell me where the parents are when young kids, about 8 to 10 years of age, are out riding their bikes at 2 a.m. at the service station on North Kingshighway? Some parents had better wake up.
I'VE GOT some advice for the Missourian and the people in the paper arguing about the word pervert and trying to apply it to the president. For all you, let's get on with something that's much bigger and better and not down in the gutter. Get your mind made up and forget it. You're not going to change anybody else's mind.
THANKS TO Joe Sullivan for such a cooling and refreshing column in the July 30 Missourian. It gives us food for thought that we can look forward and know that there will be cooler days ahead. Maybe if we didn't think about the heat index, it might not seem so hot. A great column.
ONE OF your editorials called the incident on Good Hope Street a near-riot. I suppose for your paper to consider it a riot, 300 people would have had to throw rocks, bricks and cinder blocks at the police instead of a mere 150 people. One of your columnists said the incident was the result of emotion and confusion. It's quite apparent there was a lot of emotion involved. However, I fail to see what was confusing about some police officers attempting to make an arrest. Just because people disagree or don't understand a particular arrest doesn't give them the right to riot. As far as the diversity excuse is concerned, it can only be absolute baloney. I hope my son, who is a police officer in a city many times larger than Cape Girardeau, or my son-in-law who is a state law enforcement officer, or many other young men who are law enforcement officers never die in the name of diversity because it isn't politically correct to defend themselves. I believe the police involved showed amazing restraint. When someone attempts to smash your face in with a brick, the brick becomes a lethal weapon. The act of using the brick as a lethal weapon is either attempted murder or assault with intent to kill. If their lives were in danger, the police would have been justified. And I reject this charge that these officers, in the heat of the moment, made racially derogatory comments. My response would be: So what? I believe if someone was attempting to do you bodily harm or worse yet, kill you, you have the right to call them anything you want to.
WE HAVE suffered very much through this extreme heat, but God always sends a relief period. But when the tribulation period comes upon this earth, he will not listen to the suffering of the lost as stated in Revelation 16:8-9. "And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun, and power was given unto him to scorch man with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God which had power over these plagues. And they repented not, to give him glory." God is in control of our weather, and not Mother Nature, as some say.
ROMANS 13:1 says obey the government for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. Why do I find that so easy to understand when I think about former president Jimmy Carter and so difficult to comprehend when I think about state Sen. Peter Kinder?
WHY IS everybody complaining about President Clinton being a bad person? Are they so right and pure that they can really, in good conscience, point the finger? I think Mr. Clinton has done much to humanize the office he holds. Do those people want a president who is distant and not connected to his people? If so, they're getting a chance to elect one.
I HAVE traveled about 11 or 12 states north and west of Missouri over the last two summers. I've also floated streams in different parts of Missouri this summer. Without a doubt, Missouri is the most littered state. The only conclusion I can draw is that we Missourians don't have any pride and are lazy. Maybe we could change our nickname to The Garbage State.
LINDA TRIPP has been charged with taping Monica. That's almost as bad as lying to a grand jury under oath, lying to his attorneys, attorneys lying to the media, lying on the deposition to the Senate committee. I think Slick Willie is a couple up on her. It couldn't be that he's out to get even for upsetting his White House love nest. I think Hillary should sue her for bringing this to light. How dare she should tell the truth. This woman is so terrible.
I WAS glad to see a letter about local network stations forcing people to lose their networks on satellite TV. KFVS-TV is directly conspiring to remove my First Amendment rights and to remove the First Amendment rights of my satellite-TV provider. We need to absolutely get rid of the Satellite Home Viewers Act, and we need to get rid of stations that, instead of supporting their community and their country's Constitution, are trying to take away our liberties and our choices.
I'M CALLING to request that the city of Cape Girardeau really stop and think about its goals, its directives and its itinerary for downtown Cape and its revitalization. I believe that it's really sad when somebody has moved away for many years and comes back to find the town in the same situation. As a child, I used to enjoy shopping downtown, all the different little shops and stores. I would appreciate seeing a very much needed revamping on these organizational skills.
TO YOU fine people who call our president a pervert: I don't see that he is. Maybe you see something I don't. Like the old saying, maybe it takes one to know one.
I'M CALLING in regard to the Speak Out comment stating that there are no dentists in Cape Girardeau who accept Medicaid. I'm just a normal person in Cape, but I'd like to say there are some dentists who accept Medicaid. Call some of them, and you will find out. Sometimes there is a waiting list, but they will accept Missouri Medicaid. You need to check that out.
THANK YOU, caller, for pointing out the Cape Girardeau Police Department's flagrant lack of respect for traffic rules. On any day you can see them flying down the streets and not using their turn signals, just as you pointed out.
AS FORMER President Ronald Reagan said many years ago, "There you go again." This quote can be applied to the caller who criticized Rush Limbaugh for his comments regarding JFK Jr.'s tragic death. You obviously didn't hear his comments in whole or in part, because he did not make insulting comments. He reported and commented on statements made by a former secretary to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. In the future, when you try to flush Rush, get your facts straight and don't use one of the new environmentally correct 1.3-gallon liberal toilets that can't get the job done.
I DID not hear Rush Limbaugh's vitriolic and offensive remarks about JFK Jr.'s death as reported in Speak Out, because I cannot stand to listen to anyone as rude, callous and biased as Rush. Is nothing sacred anymore? Even the death of a fine young man and two women? How did Rush become so terrible with the lovely mother that he has?
THIS IS a reply to the caller who was upset because they "understand" that Rush Limbaugh made comments about John Kennedy on his show. That's the problem with these people. They don't listen to Rush Limbaugh. They just "understand" because they hear it from someone else. If you don't have the guts to listen to him yourself, then don't call in and make public comments about what he did or didn't say. You have no way of knowing if you don't listen to him. Rush is irreverent about nearly everything, but it doesn't mean he was "vitriolic" about John Kennedy. I did listen to his show. What he said was that JFK JR. was a very nice man and that Rush had never heard anybody have anything negative to say about John F. Kennedy. Rush is a fair man.
I'D LIKE to comment to the person from Jackson who does not like the river water. The people of Cape will keep our river water, because we like to drink ours without diesel fuel in it.
I'M CALLING in regard to the comment "Where are our manners?" that was in the paper. It's not just Jackson who use those roads, so don't say that Jackson people are the ones with the bad manners. They're from all over the area, not just Jackson.
