I CAUGHT Jesse Jackson on TV, which is anyone's guess why a responsible news network would even let the man be on. Of course, he was on with his usual silly rhetoric. One thing he said was in some parts of the country there was voter intimidation. You can bet that if your kid is in a government class his teacher is influencing him. When I went to college, my teacher influenced me...

Students are influenced

No grounds for dispute

I AM thoroughly disgusted with those people in Florida who act like they couldn't even read their ballot. If they were so interested in voting, they should have studied the sample ballot like we did here in Cape Girardeau. They could have studied it until they knew what they were doing. I see no excuse for those people to be complaining. They are not the only elderly people in the United States.

Magnolia Bridge?

IT WOULD be a cold day in hell before I would want to see the Emerson bridge named the Carnahan bridge. He was more than happy to spend our tax dollars for us. As far as I am concerned there may be some who get easily sympathetic over someone dying. As far as I am concerned, he was not that great a governor. Why not name it the Magnolia Bridge. There are a lot of beautiful magnolia trees around here.

The biggest laugh

I RECENTLY heard a St. Louis newscaster tell us the election board there might be replaced due to the fiasco created when the polling time was extended beyond that set by Missouri law. She said it made Missouri the laughing stock of the United States. To my way of thinking, the nation surely got a much bigger laugh when we elected a dead man to the U.S. Senate.

Just won't give up

OH, MY goodness. Here we go again with Bill Clinton and Janet Reno sticking their noses in to the business in Florida. Didn't I tell you something would happen for Bill Clinton to try to keep himself in office? There's no way that boy is going to give up.

Billfold is returned

I LOST my billfold Nov. 8 at Walgreens. It was found by either a shopper or a Walgreens employee. It was turned in to the office there. I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the honest and kind person who found it. Thank you so much, and may God bless you.

Help was available

IGNORANCE OF the ballot is no excuse for the Florida voters to demand another vote. Polling officials are there to help any voter who may be in doubt about the ballot. If that voter doesn't ask for help, that is his fault. They can't condemn the ballot. Ignorance is no legal excuse.

Class act in Hillsboro

AS A diehard Central Tiger fan, I sure would like to tip my hat to the folks at Hillsboro for the great job they did hosting the sectional game Wednesday. Everyone was so friendly, and they sure have a great idea of what the game is all about in shaping our young people. My hat is off to everyone, students and fans alike. You're a class act.

If I had done it ...

I AM getting sick and tired of this deal down in Florida. I live in Missouri. If I would have punched two holes in my ballot, would it count? Why don't they just give up and quit whining.

Time to give up

IF GORE has any dignity, he will concede that Bush won. He might as well give up.

Bad cartoon choice

THIS NEWSPAPER should be ashamed of its self for that cartoon on the Thursday Opinion page.

Another flip-flop

THIS IS another flip-flop by Al Gore. He was asked by a news reporter if it shows that Bush is winning with electoral votes, would he step down. Gore said yes. The recount shows Bush ahead, and guess what? Gore wants the ballots hand counted now.

Army of lawyers

CLINTON AND Gore have again marshaled their vast army of lawyers and sent them to Florida to try and build a legal case to try to seat Al Gore as president in spite of the fact that on Election Day Bush won. What a disgrace.

Some humor in this

I'M JUST wondering: Does anyone but me find it highly amusing that Al Gore's point man in Florida for fair and equal elections is William Daley from Chicago, son of Mayor Daley, the big Democrat machine kingpin for years?
