I JUST want to make a comment to emphasize a fact: Truth and character do count in a candidate in the presidential race. If I could jog your memory about the little white lie that President Johnson told Congress about the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, which resulted in getting more deeply involved in the Vietnam War, which is ultimately the only war the United States has ever lost. So truth and character do count.
THIS IS to the person that called us rich-loving Republicans who don't know the facts about the lady in the Winnebago. Apparently you don't know any facts yourself, because her name is Winifred Skinner. If you knew any of the facts about her, you would know her name. Secondly, she has a multimillionaire son whom she doesn't bother to take money from. She picks up cans as a hobby, not just for the money. Why don't you bleeding-heart Democrats get your facts straight first?
SIKESTON IS making a collective effort to address its undeserved reputation for illegal drugs. Whether it succeeds or not remains to be seen. However, what is not disputed is that the city fathers and their allies have undertaken an experiment in social engineering exceeded only by the defunct Soviet Union.
I HAVE had it up to my neck reading about Jackson pride. I call it Jackson arrogance. One of the most ironic things is that they have to argue about it in the Cape Girardeau newspaper. I call that Cape Girard-eau pride.
I WOULD like to make a comment about the Clinton administration and the Mideast. This is the first time the Clinton administration didn't have to invent a crisis to start bombing. How is he going to handle this? With election coming up, it is not going to look too good for Al Gore. These news media people who back Gore are saying everything is doing well. Then how come people are complaining about the heating prices? And what did Al Gore do. Nothing.
AS A businessman, I am surprised by some large houses in my neighborhood that have Gore signs in their yards. They are wrong if they think he is the best choice. The Bush tax cut would enable me to give my minimum-wage workers a raise if I choose. Gore and his spendocrats don't understand this. I don't apologize for my money or inheritance. Gore preaches class warfare. A Bush tax cut for rich and poor is fair.
SEN. PETER Kinder's seemingly confident prediction that George Bush will win the presidency may be surprising to some. The polls remain relatively close, and anything can happen. Some cynics may accuse the astute senator of attempting to manipulate public opinion via the political propaganda technique known as the bandwagon effect. However, I do not believe this to be the case. I am now convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that George Bush will be the next president. The reason is because Senator Kinder is afforded special insight not available to those outside the collective wisdom of Cape's prestigious coffee-shop circuit.
I WOULD just like to speak to bicycle riders who ride bikes on Route W and Boutin Street. I think it is very dangerous. It is a very hilly country road where there is no visibility on many hills, and I feel very unsafe driving on the road. I have to drive it every single day. Just for your own safety, please do not ride bicycles on Route W and Boutin.
WHY DON'T people return calls that are put on answering machines? Calls to the machines too often are ignored. People with the machines should frequently check the messages. Otherwise, the caller can wait indefinitely for a return call. Be polite and answer promptly or leave the thing turned off.
