I WOULD Like to make a comment about the debate and about how many times Al Gore lied, especially about Social Security. He said he will veto any bill that would cut Social Security to invest it in another program. Well, Mr. Gore, why did you break the tie vote to tax Social Security?
THE PERSON who called "Greedy seniors" into Speak Out needs to read Tom Brokaw's "The Greatest Generation."
WHAT A ridiculous letter from the man from Perryville claiming he was sexually harassed at the federal building. Those metal detectors don't know if you're male or female. If they go off, you don't get in until the source is found. Unfortunately, it's people like him to make it necessary to have this strict security in the first place.
I CAN'T believe that Al Gore would have makeup on to look like Ronald Reagan. Can you believe this was on purpose? What kind of nut have we got here? Not only was he arrogant and obnoxious, he never stayed on the subject matter. Bush showed he needed a lesson in public speaking, but Gore made a fool of himself.
WITH GEORGE Bush's occasional messed pronunciation, it shows he is more like us, not a structured perfectionist as his opponent wants to be portrayed.
I WANTED to comment about the Hick Day that they had at Central High School for Spirit Week for the Cape-Jackson game. I really think that is so inappropriate. As a parent of one of the students, I think it teaches them to stereotype and form blanket opinions about other communities when really they should be teaching them about how to be a good winner. I haven't met any hicks from Jackson. I don't think there are a lot of farmers in Jackson. Even if there are, it doesn't mean the entire community farms. I personally haven't seen any farms just driving through Jackson. I think it's a beautiful city, just as Cape is a beautiful city. I think the two towns should appreciate what they have and compete with a spirit of sportsmanship. It seems to me that Jackson has a very good football team and that Cape Central has a very good team. I think whoever doesn't win should accept that and wish the other team well.
A HILLARY victory in New York will give credibility to the Southern saying that a Yankee is worth almost as much as a bale of cotton and he's a lot easier to pick.
I SEE a lot of things today pointing toward the general elections in November. I'm kind of disappointed with both candidates for U.S. Senate, Mel Carnahan and John Ashcroft. Some of the things that Carnahan says are not true. Some of the things that Ashcroft says are not true. Why don't we get rid of the bad commentaries? Why don't they just open up their records and let the people decide on who's for what and who's against what? That would be the clear and public way of doing things.
I JUST have to call Speak Out and let people know how horrible the fires are in our western states. I had the pleasure of visiting one of the states this past summer, and it's heartbreaking to see homes burn down, animals burn, a cub stumbling out of the fire area with burned feet. Fortunately, one of the ranchers whose ranch was in the fire area took the cub to a veterinarian, and he was saved. But his mother was burned in the fire. And why all this destruction? We have Clinton and Gore to thank and the Green people to thank for that. Their policy is what's causing this. Why? They shut down all the logging in our national forests. The broken-down timber and the thick underbrush is what's causing these treacherous fires, but the loggers cannot go in to even fight the fire. They would be experienced and would know how to take care of this better than people from New Zealand and all other areas.
THE CLINTONS and AL Gore create divisive relations wherever they go. Hillary goes to Palestine and kisses Arafat's wife while Clinton bribes Arafat. Then Gore appoints a Jew as his running mate. All this was contrived to create world division.
I WAS disappointed when, at the Jackson band parade, cars were allowed to park along the parade route. This put sidewalk viewers and many older people at a disadvantage. I thought the parade route was always clear. What happened?
AS UNOFFICIAL Speak Out adviser to the Missouri Republican Party, I have a modest proposal. Now that you've gotten rid of dirty trickster Daryl Duwe, it's also time for state GOP Chairperson Ann Wagner to resign. Before Duwe quit his post, Wagner trashed Republican Cape County Prosecutor Morley Swingle and defended the despicable Duwe. The Duwe-Wagner debacle may cost Republicans running at the local, state and national level. George Bush should not be sacrificed on the altar of Duwe's awful antics.
I WAS just calling in regards to the Oct. 3 paper. On the front page there was a story, "Klan loses appeal on free speech" about a St. Louis radio station that actually stood up and said it would not take financial support from the KKK. The Southeast Missourian put the address, the name of the organization and everything on the front page. I think that is terrible to do something like that.
I WAS just wondering if anyone else in Oran has noticed the gnat problem that's in our yards. Just swarms and swarms of gnats. I was wondering if there's anything the city could do to spray like they used to do for mosquitoes. You can't even sit on your back porch when you get off work in the evening to enjoy the nice, cool weather because of all the gnats.
